This is on point. I am of the opinion we should be open for business. Wash your hands. However the economic damage is real and it is immense. We cannot allow our country to go out of business.

The Fake News, Democrats and internet shills and their ingrained habit of making everything about OrangeManBad caused a lot of panic.

They are getting a lot of treasure for themselves out of that panic and this necessary reaction to mitigate the damage. Damage that their own hatefulness and lust for power created.

They have been unrelenting in trying to paint President Trump as incompetent in his response.

They are evil and their attempt to hold the country hostage, in total disregard for the suffering caused by their actions needs to be remembered, catalogued, and thrown back into their faces come election time.

How can it lead to massive inflation ? Or ANY inflation at all ? The whole country and possibly world is in a deflationary holding pattern. You could and they are going to, print money by the trainload to give people some income. And it won't be April. Not a hope for MOST of the economic engines of the country. More like May for say someplace like NYC.

I think at this point the panic has done more damage than the disease itself. I'd imagine this stimulus is REALLY about the fallout from panic.

It's not the virus that is the problem. It's what the reaction to it is doing to the economy that is the problem.

These aren't normal times. Whether the response to the virus was right or wrong, the damage is done and small businesses and workers alike need relief.

Normally I am against any sort of stimulus bs, but state and federal governments have put too many in a terrible position. We need a financial ride through so we are in a position to roar back when this is over, instead of picking up the pieces on mainstreet.

Congress, as it exists today, was never supposed to exist. This version of Congress was never the intention of the Congress established by the founders in the Constitution. Congress is entirely broken and corrupt and must be torn down and reformed from the ground up.

TERM LIMITS

19
Keln 19 points ago +19 / -0

Repeal the 17th amendment

3
MichaelHall1 3 points ago +3 / -0

What's the history of the 17th? Was there a problem with the system before? Or was it a case of Congress seeing a way to give themselves life terms and almost no accountability? It seems easy enough for the states to repeal the 17th. I know an Article V Convention has never been done and is generally considered next to impossible, but this issue seems like a slam-dunk for the states: they should all agree to repeal the 17th. Would Congress then repeal the repealing? What's to prevent amendment ping-pong?

10
publ1us 10 points ago +10 / -0

The bigger issue is that people won't understand why it should be repealed:

“The improbability of such a mercenary and perfidious combination of the several members of government, standing on as different foundations as republican principles will well admit, and at the same time accountable to the society over which they are placed, ought alone to quiet this apprehension.”

The Federalist no 55

I'm pretty sure the "problem" that led to it was the perception that it's "undemocratic" despite that being the idea. The Senate, House, Presidency, and Supreme Court all were elected through entirely different means to prevent an outside entity from taking control of everything, due to the diversified source of powers. One of my favorite parts of the Federalist Papers talks about how Philip of Macedon gained control over the Amphictyonic League, and drives this point home very well.

The framers knew what they were doing so much it still blows my mind. Yet, some fresh out of college dipshit thinks they know better.

2
AlohaSnackbar 2 points ago +3 / -1

I find it easier to frame it in a "states representation" argument. At current, we have 50 state governments that have exactly ZERO say in the federal government, and that is a recipe for tyranny.

1
publ1us 1 point ago +1 / -0

I agree with you, but that can be a tough sell for someone who unironically thinks the idea of “equal state representation” is an outdated relic (one facet of that being people who want to move to a national popular vote for President, which would further erode the foundation that was begun with the 17th amendment). Some people think California and NY should run the entire country because they have more people... Or conversely, they think Wyoming and Alaska should have no say because they’re sparsely populated. I reserve the deeper argument for those cases.

Continued industrial spying and intellectual property theft are not business as usual. Cyber-attacks are still attacks. Laissez-faire doesn't mean letting a hostile foreign power threaten our economy and our national security.

Declare China an enemy state. Universities, Big Tech, the media, Diane Feinstein, the Bidens et al, anyone who accepts money from them or spreads their propaganda is collaborating with the enemy and committing treasonable offenses punishable by law or military tribunal.

Prescott Bush (who started a family tradition of war-profiteering) got away with this sort of thing with the Nazis.

"A firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism... His business dealings...continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act..."

3
NostalgicFuturist 3 points ago +3 / -0

Tempting. But I can't help feeling sorry for the vast numbers of Chinese who are more victims than collaborators (or maybe both). There are millions and millions of Chinese who hate a regime that's doing things TO them but nothing FOR them. But anyone who speaks out gets disappeared or run over by a tank.

There are--maybe--signs of hope. According to this report, even Xi's cronies in the CCP may be getting fed up with his brutality, incompetence and power-mad neo-Maoism. A coup in the works? It's possible.

Democrats stripped out $3 Billion for oil purchases to restock the Strategic Petroleum Reserve which has been tapped in previous years to generate revenue to fund various legislation and not replenished.

They're calling it an "oil bailout" when it's not even a bailout. It's a smart move to buy oil when prices are very low to replenish the crucially important SPR. It's a purchase of a commodity on the open markets and none of the money goes directly to specific oil companies as a bailout. But none of that matters to the Dems they are absolutely intent on destroying the oil industry.

As someone from an economic region heavily dependent on the oil industry for good jobs -- FUCK YOU DEMOCRATS!!

12
The_VeryStableGenius 12 points ago +12 / -0

Moreover, in a time when oil is low, and we are enjoying the result of booming oil industry in the US, purchasing from domestic companies would be of significant value to industry, the economy, and it's employees. It's win win win win

When I looked into this a few days ago it seemed like the amount that the US gov could buy wasnt that much. (I still think filling it up is worth doing) I think the max capacity is around 720 million barrels and it currently somewhere in the mid 600 billion barrel level.

From the last annual report I could find: https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2020/01/f70/2018%20SPR%20Report%20to%20Congress.pdf

"The SPR entered calendar year (CY) 2018 with 662.8 million barrels (MMbbl) of crude oil, and at the end of CY 2018 (as of December 31, 2018), the SPR held 649.1 MMbbl"

2
mykillk 2 points ago +2 / -0

50-80 million barrels of new demand is a pretty big deal.

I think Trump release some more in 2019 as well.

$3 Billion / ~$30 barrel is 100 million barrels

1
CarlosDangerrr 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can find the current amount of reserves here: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&s=WCSSTUS1&f=W

It looks like you are correct. in the beginning of 2019 SPR had 649,139,000 and ended with 634,967,000 barrels

1
CarlosDangerrr 1 point ago +1 / -0

Here is an article which makes the argument in quite a lot of detail why SPR purchases will not be large enough to make a difference. I still think the US should do it but in the strategic way the author argues for.

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4332736-q2-2020-oil-glut-will-be-unprecedented

Trump’s announcement should be viewed in the right perspective. In our view, it does not mean that the United States will buy non-stop to reach the maximum storage level. This does not make sense because SPR crude inventories are already quite high and US domestic production is elevated, at least for now. The SPR purchases are meant to give downside protection to crude oil prices. It is quite possible that the government has a floor level in mind (maybe $20 or $25). In this case, there will be a mechanism to gradually make crude purchases below this threshold.

2
mykillk 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah so instead of finally inserting some stability to the oil markets by asserting a floor, now there's nothing holding it up and protecting against further declines. Prices are so low right now that any further drops could be catastrophic. First mass layoffs and then oil companies folding up left and right.

32
Choppermagic 32 points ago +33 / -1

1
Fabius 1 point ago +1 / -0

I want a rifle before I get a shotgun. Not a lot of penetrative power on a shotgun (non-slug), and the range isn't great. A rifle round will go through pretty much all natural, day to day cover. I'd even take a bolt action at this point. The fighting isn't going to be close range. It's going to be a strategy of rifle deterrence, imo.

I think this is another 4-D chess move by Trump. In addition, this is also waking people up to the need for strong and secure borders.

Bailouts for industries and larger companies should be separate legislation.

2
America1stAndOnly 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've been talking to my mom more frequently these past few days. Sadly, she has some pretty bad TDS and has had it since the 2016 election. It got so bad that politics of any kind could not even be discussed around her. Weirdly enough, she brought up politics this past week, and she was even somewhat calm. She mentioned the initial stimulus bill from the senate repulicans and how it was ridiculous about it being 240 pages. The next day when we spoke, we talked about the changes and I mentioned the 1,400 page democrat house build. I was amazed when she expressed how there was no way that could be on the up and up.

I thought it was impossible, but my mom might be recovering from her TDS. Dare I dream that maybe she can completely recover by November and vote for Trump? Well, the democrats seem to be helping her recover with their recent actions at least.

2
Fabius 2 points ago +2 / -0

My wife is the same way. Not TDS, but she's nominally a Democrat. Lately though she's been coming around.

I think they're starting to realize they've been lied to. Over and over again. Every time the media said, "The walls are closing in" and "The beginning of the end" they've been proven wrong. After three years, it begins to wear on you.

The breaking part is the social justice stuff. I'm a glorious straight white man, she's a chicana. Whenever she hears Democrats casually talk about how straight white men are the devil, she thinks of her husband, and her mixed race son who is pretty fucking white and has an English name. It's starting to dawn on her that they're talking about her family.

If this is truly an emergency that's so dire it requires sending tax dollars in a direct check to people, then I deserve my share even if I make 99k.

Veto this socialist garbage

RedSocks157 21 points ago +29 / -8

Will everyone stop freaking out about this?

We have two choices here with what is happening to the economy. We can prop it up, or we can let crash out completely. Nothing would make Democrats happier than seeing the market go all the way into the shitter, because if it does, Trump loses the single biggest thing that he has going for him in November and they will hammer it day in and day out until he's out of the White House.

The economy needs to be supported, and regular Americans who are out of work need to be supported right now. It's not ideal, but the government is actually doing its damn job and protecting citizens with this - it's not some massive, unending entitlement program that will drain the federal budget for the next 100 years. It's an infusion of cash in multiple places to keep the overall economy alive.

And if you got your way, you could take a picture with the headlines about him losing when the economy is completely destroyed and he gets blamed for it. The state of the economy is the absolute best indicator of whether or not an incumbent president will be re-elected.

Maybe you could throw in a selfie with all the headlines screaming how Trump doesn't care about poor people and businesses for good measure.

You let that election fraud amendment go through, its all over, buddy. You better be clear on that. Republicans will never win an election again.

1
RedSocks157 1 point ago +1 / -0

From what I've read there's money for absentee ballots, but not forcing states to do same day registration or any of Nancy's other bullshit. Absentee ballots are already a pretty regular thing especially for the military although they are abused by the libs for sure. As long as there's no same day bullshit or any of the other crap they use to pump up their numbers, it's nothing that can't be combated. We're already cleaning up voters rolls thanks to orgs like Judicial Watch.

Also, as Hannity and O'Reilly pointed out during their discussion on the radio yesterday, there's nothing in this bill that the Republicans can't fix later especially once we reclaim our majority in the House.

Do you have a link? I know the Senate bill still has the dumb art funding, but I haven't seen anything about it keeping the mail in (fraudulant) ballot bullshit from crazy Nancy's bill.

7
WildSauce 7 points ago +13 / -6

That money is in the form of grants for states. Individual states can choose to take that money or not. The states that already do vote by mail will take it, and those that don't will ignore it. It makes no difference, and if 0.02% of the bill must be wasted on nonsense like that in order to pass then so be it.

6
GeneticsGuy 6 points ago +8 / -2

It literally says in the bill that "No son-in-law of the President can get loans for their business."

I bet they'll let their own children though.

4
Muh_Wailing_MXbabies 4 points ago +4 / -0

Gov Pritzker of Illinois and HYATT should have the same rule then!!!

3
Yucky 3 points ago +3 / -0

It also blocks members of congress and their families' businesses from receiving aid, so it's not just targeted at Trump. Although he probably would suffer the most since he owns travel/hotel related stuff and also owns the most.

17
RedWhiteBlue15 17 points ago +17 / -0

Is there any consistent information on this thing yet? I keep seeing all of these contradicting posts. Is this the original bill or one that was modified with some of crazy nancy's bullshit? Any version of this with ballot harvesting cannot be passed. Yet people keep saying it's still in this bill for some reason.

Why is it that the government can send millions and millions to help aid other countries but they fight over helping there own people it’s beyond me ....

6
Viiiii 6 points ago +7 / -1

It’s easy to understand. The US gov is irredeemably corrupt, and politicians receive kickbacks for sending ludicrous amounts of money to shithole countries with little oversight.

I think saying that “I don’t understand”, even if sarcastic is counter productive. We need to shift the Overton window and start calling a spade and spade. The gov is corrupt to the point that only citizens physically removing politicians will make a difference. The swamp is NOT going to prosecute or punish itself. That is up to WE THE PEOPLE

4
the_pragmaticist 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'm opposed to any form of help to anyone in this case - it's a bullshit shutdown, tons of theater, and no value in any of it. That said, I do have a hard time with the hate on big corps in this case. I work for a F200 manufacturing corp and we're getting hit HARD. Demand for product is around zero, we're shutting down almost all factories globally in 30+ countries, and we have tens of thousands of people out of work. We cannot afford to pay them while we're shut down. I don't care how rich the CEO is - we don't have cash to cover operating expenses that don't lead to product.

It's not my company's fault that regional and local governments are forbidding people to come to work, and not our fault that a bullshit panic made our product demand evaporate, and not our fault that maintaining our investment grade and financial ratios so that we actually have investors requires that we don't sit on enough cash to idle for weeks or months on end at full cost.

The bailout isn't going into some rich leader's pockets in our case, at least - it's going to avoid unpaid furlough of our US citizens who are getting fucked over by their own government. Come to think of it, government is the cause and the solution to this issue, eh?

Yesterday a post outlined how Dems were trying to sneak in a provision to allow volunteers to truck in absentee ballots in unlimited numbers "so people wouldn't have to go to polls". A technique used to steal votes in California. Do we know if this made it to the version being voted on? I scanned the text and couldn't find it but want to be sure.

12

So what is the extra cost for? President Trump cannot cave into this if any pork in that bill. Veto this shit if necessary and just reopen the country.
