Because not everybody is eligible for unemployment?

Only working at your company for a couple of months? New job and have been unemployed for too long before to have enough quarters? Freelancer? etc, etc, etc

I mean, I won't argue that not everybody needs a check, but I'd rather everybody get a check than people who need money but can't collect unemployment be left to fall between the cracks.

I mean ultimately I'd prefer if these tyrannical governors let us go back to work instead but if the govt is going to not let us work they have an obligation to at least help us in the mean time.

For the people who are employing those being put out of a job, among other things. If businesses suffer greatly or aren't given a parachute there won't be enough opportunities to employ all these new unemployed people now.

Exactly this. There will be a giant flood of new applicants in the work force, but the businesses that shuttered their doors won’t be open to re-hire. They will come back over years, not months.

Well some of us can’t go to work and want to have our job when the insanity ends. Also if everyone was to file for unemployment it would be the end of small business.

Fair point.

Also, why didn't they put the same restrictions on hospitals and other entities as they did the corporations? You ever seen some of those executive salaries for "non-profits"....ha ha ha.....
