When this is all sorted out and we have the spare test kits and a couple years to monitor COVID-19, we're going to find that infected virtually everyone and it has a mortality rate close to the common flu of about 0.1%.
In addition, and we'll find this out a lot sooner than later, we will find that all this economy killing stuff: the self-quarantining, social-distancing, school closings, restaurant closings, daycare closings.... we're going to find that it didn't do anything to "flatten the curve" in any substantial manner.
So we are currently killing our economy and reducing our ability to respond to the impending needs for a snake-oil cure that apparently nearly every world leader has purchased.
I’m really torn about this virus. Estimates are 35% infection rate, no herd immunity, and no widely available treatment(you can argue HCQ + A, but since it’s wide scale deployment is hamstrung it won’t be used to cure all critical patients so quickly).
It’s definitely worse than the flu, just in terms of infection rate and chance of death in older populations, but much less lethal to people under 40 than the flu, sorry boomers.
The thing is, only thing people look at is infections and death numbers rising. I can easily predict 6K dead by beginning of May and that is alarming to people. People shouldn’t be panicking like retards either, the virus will come and go and most likely become easier to treat over time, becoming just another seasonal annoyance. Trying to isolate and quarantine the spread was a good idea, as we didn’t have the means to combat a wide scale infection, nobody does. After a certain point, however, quarantining becomes less effective, so it really shouldn’t be done for more than a month. It gives enough time for infection rates to fall off and those that may be asymptomatically spreading it.
Basically:
I want this country to get back to fucking work ASAP but we are going to be feeling the effects of this shit for years to come.
