They need to stop him.

It's not going to work. I have no idea if this is the miracle cure people purport it to be (I'm cautiously optimistic)... but if it is, the rest of the world isn't going to play along with Democrats just to manipulate the American election. If it works, they will use it, and Democrats like Cuomo and the Nevada governor will end up looking like monsters.

It's the same dosage that worked on SARS.

The ChiVi is literally like SARS 2.0

11
BernsWhenIPee 11 points ago +11 / -0

Yeah, it's a new variety of SARS. The official name of the virus is SARS-CoV-2... Covid-19 is the name of the disease that's caused by the virus.

Trump got wind of this and got the FDA to make hydroxychloroquine as an approved drug by mid-day Tuesday.

Didn't the FDA already approve it? And what about compassionate use laws?

16
Block_Helen 16 points ago +17 / -1

It is already FDA approved. Otherwise it couldn't be used for lupus and malaria. The FDA doesn't approve specific uses, as I understand it. That is up to the doctor.

Filling prescriptions of a drug in short supply can be restricted to prevent hoarding and the supply drying up. But that is not the same thing as prohibiting those prescriptions in the first place.

LessSwampMoreMAGA 15 points ago +15 / -0

He blocked any use of it for covid 19 except for state approved clinical trials (at least he’s trying to through executive order)

Next: State orange man, cough, we mean DRUG is really bad.

25
Belleoffreedom 25 points ago +25 / -0

My guess is that this drug is being stockpiled by medical people and the wealthy.

12
Block_Helen 12 points ago +12 / -0

Yes and that is a legitimate concern. But thanks to Trump we are ramping up supply and it is cheap and easy to manufacture here in the US. So hopefully it won't be a problem for long.

10
Fizbin7 10 points ago +10 / -0

Yep - these restrictions aren't because they think it won't work, but because they think it will. And they want all of it, to dispense to their friends and supporters exclusively.

Jesus, people. Learn a little logic.

NO you cannot prescribe it as in take a note down to Walgreens and get some for THIS purpose. Obviously we have very dumb people that are trying to cheat and get it and then either horde it, sell it on the down-low, or fucking drink the entire bottle.

This must be given out in precise dosages under the supervision of a doctor IN A HOSPITAL for this purpose because it needs to be closely monitored as it is not FDA approved for this particular sickness.

YES you can get in in the hospital under these trials.

10
DisgustedByMisleadia 10 points ago +10 / -0

This is correct. Scroll down a bit and you'll see the relevant part of the executive order.

12
DisgustedByMisleadia 12 points ago +12 / -0

Found it, here's the relevant part:

https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/no-20210-continuing-temporary-suspension-and-modification-laws-relating-disaster-emergency

No pharmacist shall dispense hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine except when written as prescribed for an FDA-approved indication; or as part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19, with such test result documented as part of the prescription. No other experimental or prophylactic use shall be permitted, and any permitted prescription is limited to one fourteen day prescription with no refills.

States do conduct clinical trials. You can do a search for "state clinical trials" and find multiple examples. However, I believe the FDA has ordered that all info be forwarded to them.

The biggest problem I have with the requirement to be in a clinical trial is that you could end up in the control group in a double-blind trial. If so, you would receive a placebo, or some other treatment that might or might not work.

1
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago +1 / -0

But, if there's no other drug treatment known to work, what do they do?

I hope the most severe cases are treated with this combo, before they die or are permanently disabled.

2
HaleyNunes2024 2 points ago +2 / -0

Maybe I'm naive, but it sounds like they're trying to limit usage of the drug to ensure it is available to patients who need it most.

1
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think that's true, as well. But, the clinical trial requirement may have some undesired consequences for the patient. By definition, a clinical trial would have a control group that receives a placebo or something else.

They’re just doing the most testing. So far .003% of NYC tested positive. Also factor in a 5% false positive rate.

No, that's not the full text of this order.

Cuomo is restricting its use to clinical trials. But, the FDA has made it extremely easy to participate in a clinical trial. It probably means that the patient has to have been confirmed by a test to have COVID-19.

What this blocks is doctors writing prescriptions for any other reason, like prophylaxis. There have apparently been some spot shortages because doctors are writing prescriptions for friends and family.

I'll try to dig up the full text of the order, and follow up.

8
Staatssicherheit 8 points ago +8 / -0

He is blocking family doctors outside the hospitals from using the drug on patients without severe symptoms in order to funnel all of the drugs to doctors inside the hospitals to use on patients with severe symptoms.

... and his friends.

6
JohnBarron 6 points ago +6 / -0

This happened in Oregon, but upon reading more they just blocked prescriptions to OTC to save the majority of prescriptions to those in hospitals and intensive care for COVID19. So this needs to be looked in to a little more.

EDIT: yes, someone provided the part from the bill that says this.

Well it's a good thing it's over the counter then isn't it?

8
Belleoffreedom 8 points ago +8 / -0

It's not over the counter in the US. It is, in some countries.

2
AtariArtist 2 points ago +3 / -1

Sounds like an executive order could correct that. I know zinc isn't regulated - so that leaves the 3rd thing (which name I don't recall nor do I know it's status - but it 'could' be OTC'ed).

I thought the Z-pack was for Zinc? (seriously I have no idea - the news on this stuff is coming on so fast, Scott Adams does 2 daily podcasts / periscopes on it now)

3
Induceddrag 3 points ago +3 / -0

Z-pack is a common antibiotic.
Zinc stops the virus from replicating it’s “bad” RNA in your cells. Chloroquine makes you cell walls semi-permeable for the Zinc to get in the cells.
The Z-pack is to stop any opportunistic bacteriological infections. Z-packs are a short course antibiotic. The pills all come in a plastic and foil pack. You may have been prescribed it for a sinus infection.

1
Karmasuture 1 point ago +1 / -0

The Z-pack is rumored to work due to off-label anti-inflammatory effects, specifically in lung tissue. Stopping secondary infections is just a bonus.

Cool - ty for the info!

3
thelastlast 3 points ago +3 / -0

third thing is an antibiotic- that will never be OTC, herd immunity and all that

3
CQVFEFE 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's approved by FDA according to Trump. For this virus.

3
Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

HCQ is an FDA approved drug. The FDA does not approve certain drugs for certain diseases. That is up to the doctor as Trump said. I don't know if the governor can override it. I think there can be a limitation on filling prescriptions in order to prevent hoarding. But they can't tell doctors that they aren't allowed to prescribe it.

Edit: I don't know if I'm correct on this but it seems to me that if doctors have been prescribing it off-label, that is perfectly legal for them to do. I'm not sure what power the governor has to limit it. But hoarding is a concern - for now.
