Almost all of my liberal/progressive friends are (1) more apocalyptic about the current situation, (2) supportive of more draconian measures to limit economic activity (like forced shelter in place, ratting out businesses that remain open, calling the cops on people they see on the street, etc.), and (3) supportive of an even longer period of an economic shutdown? They seem to be enjoying this almost to some extent.
Why?

Well, your friends are probably just parroting the talking points on the various propaganda arms of the DNC (CNN, MSNBC, WaPo etc). The progressive's hope is that the economy will tank hard enough that people will blame President Trump by election time. They're trying desperately to prolong the economic troubles so the economy doesn't make a comeback before Nov.
They fucked themselves so badly coming in from vacation and attempting to sabotage aid to the american people. All moral arguments aside, all they did is line moderate democrats up, and made it so people like me are just shooting fish in a barrel.

The ones I know can’t get enough of “govt control”. They love them some govt overreach. They are ecstatic for the shutdown because of the lower emissions. They are also, I’m convinced, getting their media matters propaganda emails telling just why all of this is so great. They are insane, and will continue to take this country down with socialism and communism.

They want business to close and more and more people dependent on the government. Because when you have people dependent on you, you can control them.
Ha! That tell you just how "essential" their work are. If they can sit at home and wanting to sit some more, just how much of their work was really frivolous modern amenities and not necessities?
They are getting aggressive with their lunacy, agitating for that huge Dem bill, actively working even against local businesses. Simultaneously acting entitled they cant get take out from their favorite restaurants and wanting harsher measures tells you they are cheering on these things because of its impact on work/corporate culture. Just how much "local support" they are really exhibiting when it is obvious they are acting against their neighbors. Bet they are still self-satisfied and smug thinking those deplorables shouldn't have better house or choose to live away from the city.
On top of that, they think their moment has come, their Saul Arlinsky moment is here. There is no doubt from these actions now they are the kind of people that will wage economy war people they disagree with and serve as Stasi rats, is there? They are just lucky the rest of America isn't angry enough yet to park cement on city overpasses and dump the load.
Extra note: if you have people in your life where the only way they engage in politics with you is through tactics and disruption, why even keep them in the social circle? How much of the "oh I will never do it you." do you expect to hold out?
