This happens because people who don't want to offend, who want to be liked, who want to be agreeable, will frequently agree to things they shouldn't and will get stomped at the negotiating table by people who are willing to be disagreeable. Those are the people who say "No, that's not good enough. No deal." and walk away from the table. Then the person who wants to be agreeable says "Wait a minute, what if we do X?" and they give up something they didn't want to just to make the deal.
Or outside of business negotiations they are more likely to sacrifice their principles in the name of compromise rather than stand for what they believe in.
