Exactly! Also, we’re basing this mainly on cases that have been discovered via testing that has been done mostly on those sick enough to seek care, meaning we’re missing (and therefore leaving out of the denominator) all the people that have it and aren’t having serious symptoms! If we had actual numbers of those infected, I think the mortality rate would be much lower. The only question is, what’s the hospitalization rate? Someone might not die, but still require hospitalization and if that number is high, it definitely could still overwhelm the system. I’m just at a loss at how much devastating economic damage we have incurred for presumptions/assumptions and no indication of taking into account variables when comparing countries and why perhaps mortality rates differ so greatly!

The numbers aren’t accounting for people who have had it and were not hospitalized because they thought it was just a flu or didn’t even show symptoms.

According to https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Germany has 2 deaths per million and the US has 3 deaths per million, so we aren't so far behind.
