Step one:

Page 781 of the bill provides $25 million to the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives to cover "salary and expenses."

This is called a payoff. Pure and simple.

Corrupt democrats. They're overpaid as it is, this is just a giant yearly bonus for them. Their bonus here is way more than an entire year's salary for an average American worker. Sickening.

Disgusting abuse of the working class in this legislation. They simply would not pass a bill to make their mandated shutdown less onerous on the taxpayers and businesses affected. Thanks China. Thanks heartless Dems. Every DAMN line in that bill should have the authors name attached to it! This cannot be allowed to continue.

I've been saying this from the beginning, you want to stimulate the economy through money back to the taxpayers? Whatever amount you were going to send, remove that much from my income taxes. I get the money, people who don't contribute don't.

Edit- I also realize this is different than usual due to trying to help those who are losing jobs, however I still don't believe it's a good move in the long run. Time will tell.

I may be wrong, but I thought part of this package was going lower or eliminate the payroll tax from our work checks for a while.

Does anyone here know if this is indeed part of the bill?

1
datascience 1 point ago +1 / -0

Whatever amount you were going to send, remove that much from my income taxes

Thats what they're doing. If you receive a check, you get a tax credit on your tax return for that amount which means you're not paying any taxes on it.

0
Scroon 0 points ago +1 / -1

My understanding of the stim is that it's addressing the cashflow problem. Income tax relief would only help months down the line and require too much "IRS math".

The economy is currently like a manual engine that has its fuel line temporarily blocked. Without a constant fuel feed, the engine stalls and startup will be a bitch.

The best solution to squirt some gas directly into the intake to keep it running for the time it takes to dislodge the blockage.

The income tax solution would be like adding fuel to the tank instead of directly to the engine.

False equivalency.

The government took unilateral action which directly caused individual Americans to lose thousands of dollars each. Now the government is using half its annual budget to give that money back to the people who lost it.

They're doing this to prevent massive unemployment surges and a tidal wave of new people getting onto long-term government programs. This thousand-or-so fun-time-wacky-bucks NOW will save us an order of magnitude more as compared to letting things fall where they fall.

For reasons I don't understand, you're conflating a focused and permanent policy of wealth redistribution with a one-time emergency disaster-relief payout.

Stop it.

One way or another, it will stop. I'm hoping it stops with us getting our income back. No I'm not talking about the retarded fucking stimulus. I'm talking about backing taxes down from 50+% to where they should be 2-3%. Also getting all these millions of faggots off welfare. 40+ million motherfuckers on foodstamps alone. ~80% of the budget is social shit that the gov shouldn't be involved with.

2
Trump2011 2 points ago +2 / -0

I think it's based on individual pay, not split income. I could be wrong but it looked to me to be based on the individual tax payer 2018 income. So If each person makes $75k then they both get the full amount. If one makes $200k and the other makes zero, then I think the person on $0 gets the payment. Doesn't seem right, but I haven't seen anything about split income.

0.01% of pork is all that's in this bill. It's literally nothing compared to the support this will give to the American people and how this will help restart the economy.

While the all started from a virus I honestly believe trump is looking at this as a opportunity. Trump sees Whuhan Flu ahead, hits clutch (quarentines), down shifts economy( Gets Americans to want manufacturing back from China), hit the gas (this bill), pop the clutch (open on Easter) and do a hole shot getting us up to 5% GDP

It all depends on where you live. How do people not understand this? $100k in parts of Texas is really good money...upper middle class. $100k in British Colombia (Canada) or San Francisco and you are sharing a studio apartment with 2 other people and going hungry a couple days a week. Without context, saying $100k means you are wealthy is just as stupid as saying $100k means you are poor. The same job can pay VERY differently depending on the cost-of-living of your city/state. I've met taxi drivers in New York who make $200k a year and are still "poor" because of the fees they have to pay for their licenses and union checks and rent on their tiny house an hour away that they've been saving up for for 15 years. Just suggesting that a certain dollar amount means anything (without context) is a sign if total ignorance around the subject.

2
when_we_win_remember 2 points ago +2 / -0

The person who blows through 200k and the person who blows through 50k end up with the same amount of wealth. Took me a while to figure that out, too, but if you're going to blow it all may as well do it in your 20s when it's fun.

21
eplettner 21 points ago +26 / -5

If that's all they got and some few pennies for refugees then this is totally a win. This is the leanest emergency relief build by far that I have ever seen.

I do see a lot of shills out there that are complaining about the 0.01% in pork that I've been able to find. But if this can restart the economy and possibly get us to 5% GDP when manufacturing comes back from China that makes the deficit totally unimportant and able to be bait paid back relatively quickly. But as any business men will tell you you want to have a fair amount of debt and compared to the rest of the world America's rather debt free. The numbers may seem large but as compared to percentages of production its meaningless.

Yes the democrats are getting a little pocket cash but if that keeps them from putting billions and billions to try and change the country them I'm good with it. I am going to push for him to charge China for this bill since they screwed up the whole response and lied

9
deleted 9 points ago +9 / -0

eplettner 10 points ago +12 / -2

You obviously didn't understand my text. People now want manufacturing back from China, And it's already starting to move back even in these times. Moving manufacturing takes time so won't happen immediately but the effort of building and preparing for manufacturing to move back will cause a huge bump in GDP.

Then we sent China the bill, Take it off R tabs or better yet but just tear up the whole tabs

14
underthesmellybridge 14 points ago +20 / -6

CALM DOWN. This isn't that much money, even for Congressional salaries. Consider:

The base salary for a member of Congress is $174,000 per year.

There are 435 members of Congress.

$174,000 times 435 is $75.6 million.

So Congress has over $75 million in "salary and expenses," per year, for just the members of the House of Representatives. No benefits. No staff. No office expenses. No electricity. No janitors. Just base pay for the people elected.

It's undeniable that the coronavirus has caused expenses for Congress to go up. Buildings are being cleaned more (requires more staff and materials), they probably purchased a bunch of PPE and medical supplies (at above market-rate prices), and temporary staff are needed to cover for people home sick (whether actually sick or just psychosomatic).

An extra $25 million to cover those expenses is totally reasonable. A bargain, in fact.

If that's all it took to buy their votes, it's a great price!

21
iRubGuacOnMyArmpits 21 points ago +22 / -1

Considering they explicitly state in the bill that none of it will go to Trump's businesses and yet they make sure they themselves get paid, it's disgusting. So Trump's hotel employees and businesses aren't allowed to be paid but congress is. Rules for thee, not for me.

12
underthesmellybridge 12 points ago +12 / -0

That was an easy condition for Trump to accept. His balance sheet is beautiful, he's very under-leveraged, and the Trump companies can get financing from the big banks.

But the condition also applies to the families of members of Congress. Scumbags like Hunter Biden. That going to hurt them.

Trump wins. Again.

(3) COVERED INDIVIDUAL.—The term ‘‘covered individual’’ means—

(A) the President, the Vice President, the head of an Executive department, or a Member of Congress; and

(B) the spouse, child, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law, as determined under applicable common law, of an individual described in subparagraph (A).

They stuffed everything into a bill with the original purpose of repealing excise taxes for so-called 'Cadillac health plans,' or in other words, money for the already-rich. Notice that is H.R. 748 - House Resolution 748. Look at the amendments to get at the 'riders.'

Not crazy about this either but "salaries and expenses" could in theory be to cover staff salaries, overtime, extra travel, etc related to this pandemic. And it absolutely pales in comparison to Porkzilla that Pelosi tried to ram through a few days ago. Most importantly the ballot harvesting bullshit has been removed.

My guess is the dems saw the writing on the wall and realized they didn't want to die on the hill of windmill subsidies, etc.

They have gone full Marie Antoinette on us ("Let them eat cake!"). They are the damn pandemic in our country. They need to be sprayed with a tankful of "get the hell out" bleach.

If I were Trump I'd hold a 2 hour press conference and read out all the pork in the bill. Then I'd say I want to drain the swamp, I don't want to sign this bill, but not at the cost of your lives. I am fighting for you, but now is not the time to fight.

There is a ton of shit in this bill that sucks.

Rumor: The bill has provisions for illegals.

Tbh if people would take the time to look through all "relief fund packages" from bailouts to funds for third world countries. You will see shit loads of this.

This is where their children come into it. The same was happening in Ukraine as an example.

It better be the last supper for them before the executioner.

Considering they explicitly state in the bill that none of it will go to Trump's businesses and yet they make sure they themselves get paid, it's disgusting. So Trump's hotel employees and businesses aren't allowed to be paid but congress is. Rules for thee, not for me.

Money laundering. From our pockets to dems pockets.

Trump should have vetoed. Veto is, it appears, the only check on a completely lawless and out of control Congress.

The cure is so much worse than the disease. Resources are finite, but politicians have to pretend each life is priceless. Tanking the economy for 1% to live is the kind of nightmare choice that keeps me out of politics.

Vonluck 2 points ago +2 / -0

And the largest problem. Trump can’t veto something the senate passed 96-0.

Read the bill. Really isn't much pork in there beyond keeping federal institutions afloat. 350$MM for refugees is the worst of it. 25$MM for congress is par for the course and isn't an absurd amount. They always vote themselves a piggy bank for their own press tours about how they saved America and that's all that is.

Huge chunk of the money is going to housing programs. Feel like the amounts are unprecedented.

8 billion for tribal governments feels high, especially with another billion or so set aside for them throughout the rest. Not sure what they typically get compared to DC/territories that got 3 billion.

Any company owned by a member/spouse gets screwed out of all the benefits. Their 'anti-Trump corruption' bill.. but I'm confused because this appears to harm more of their house members than anyone else. Whatever, anti-corruption legislation with some teeth is fine.

The most important part of the bill is all the small-business stuff. Events like this kill off the weak and are big-corps favorite thing. Need to protect small-businesses as they make America. Made in America is going to be king on the other end of this and we don't want conglomerates actually making it all in Mexico and stealing the rebound.

Term limits need to be a focus going Q1 2021.

What's going on with this, anyway? Is the house voting on it anytime soon?

IAmAnElephante 1 point ago +1 / -0

Im going to have to agree with Jimmy on this bill for once. This all smell like shit, and another 2008 bailout that is going to continue to strengthen the empowerment of corps by eating up all the small businesses in the end. What are your thoughts? I kinda want Trump to veto this trash now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXPjNLIJ3W4

  1. New tax credit based on 2020 taxable income.

  2. Amounts are $1,200 for individual, $2,400 per couple and $500 per dependent.

  3. Income limits are $75,000 for individuals, $112,500 for head of household, and $150,000 for joint returns before a phase out begins. You are completely phased out ($0 credit) at around $99,000 for an individual. Since this is based on adjusted gross income for 2020, your tax planning should start now. If you are right around the cusp of $75-$100k (individual) you may want to consider putting more money into your 401k this year to reduce your tax income and make sure you get more benefit from the credit.

  4. You will receive an advance on your 2020 tax credit based on your 2019 tax income as an estimate for your 2020 tax year. If you haven’t filed 2019 taxes yet you may use your 2018 tax year. If you don’t have either, social security benefits records can be used. No interest will be charged if they overpay you with your advanced payment.

Really that's pretty much all I care about. All the other attempted shenanigans pales in comparison to this.

They kept some provisions that I really don't like in there...businesses need it though. I really resent the Democrats putting their political bullshit before saving the economy. If they try to pull any other shit I hope McConnell smacks it down and reminds them what they did here.

Classic example of the lack of spine republicans have. I guess we just give the children the candy after they have a temper tantrum.
