This is called a payoff. Pure and simple.
That’s politics. It’s good work if you can get it. You could stand on principle and never get anything done, or you can take the best deal you can realistically get and accept that there will sometimes be trade offs. It sucks, but in the words of Dr. Malcolm: “there it is.”
