dark_webdev 13 points ago +43 / -30

This is fake news actually. This is a corona-virus antibody test, not a corona-virus test

The test is not supposed to detect corona-virus

67
Isolated_Patriot 67 points ago +70 / -3

The test is supposed to show how many people have had, and recovered from the virus without medical intervention. And it's wrong 80% of the time.

The article simply refers to them as test kits.

That's not fake news, your just twisting it it like a politico article.

19
Imransgarage 19 points ago +19 / -0

Tough to be wrong that often on a yes/no question.

Reaaallly tough.

11
pluka 11 points ago +11 / -0

It's not even possible. If it actually is 80% wrong you can just invert the result and then it is 80% right.

2
WiseDonkey 2 points ago +2 / -0

People are being too sloppy about the language in the article. It says "returned false results up to 80% of the time." Not INCORRECT results, but rather false results. If it is supposed to detect antibodies, false presumably means it thinks there are no antibodies. I'm guessing that what they are saying (they are not being very precise) is that 80% of the time when there are antibodies the kits say there aren't. They are not, I'm guessing, saying that when there are no antibodies the kit is claiming there are antibodies (if they were doing that at an 80% rate, you would be right).

In summary, if 10% of patients have the antibodies, I think they are saying the kit claims only 2% of the patients have the antibodies (the kits are missing the other 8%, so giving false 80% of the time when they should be giving true).

This is not true. Our test has 3 RNA tests, one is general and two are specific to SARS-COV-19, the virus that causes COVID-19. Dr. Brice covered that in one of her briefings.

8
quigonkenny 8 points ago +8 / -0

Influenza is not a Coronavirus. They're not even in the same phylum. Influenza might be causing false positives on these tests, but it's not because it's a Coronavirus.

Which part is fake? The fact that China made them? Or the fact that they are wrong more often than right?

-7
ProfessorRomendev -7 points ago +2 / -9

I’d say it’s misleading, cause the title makes it seems like there’s LOADS of people who have it but the test says they don’t have it, and loads of people who don’t have it but the test says they do.

If what the other guy said is right, I didn’t read the article.

But the tests that China sent to Czechoslovakia are useless because they are wrong 80% of the time, yielding both false positive and false negative results. The tests would be useful if they correctly showed the presence or absence of antibodies, but they don't.

The administration is right, asymptomatic people should not get tested.

Not only is it totally unrealistic to test everyone, a negative test ENCOURAGES people to do the things that will get them infected!!!

That's all it takes to shutter the US economy?

Glad they could have an experimental "test run" while we foot the $2T bill and wrestle with the practical fallout for the foreseeable future.

Too easy, right?

2
Barbieblonde 2 points ago +2 / -0

Fool us once... shame on us. If China tries to pull this again it will be their day of reckoning. B-2's over Beijing... reckoning.

2
InTheArmsOfThePepe 2 points ago +2 / -0

I hear you, pede!

The grim reality, however, is that all it may take is "once". In the future, we may not get the benefit of a second-chance with hindsight.

3
Barbieblonde 3 points ago +3 / -0

The once already happened in my eyes. This "Op" of theirs and how it collapsed the economy, leading a renewed leftist charge for socialism and open borders has clinched it for me.

The Cold War 2 needs to be recognized for what it is. China and the E.U. versus the United States of America.

2
InTheArmsOfThePepe 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well said, even for a blonde barbie ;p

Yeah, I am increasingly convinced that tomorrow's hidden war (read: today's) is not one of footsoldiers and landgrabs, but of financial economies. Through sanctions and trade deals imposed by a World Bank/etal, the fight for zeroes is really a fight for a place at the table, for the chance to NOT be relegated to the throwbacks of obscurity.

And this war for dollars and cents is fraught with the same spies and traitors as any other warfront. Rather than being cloistered among the top echelons of our military infrastructure, they are instead embedded within the highest reaches of our policy making bodies (ie House and Senate, for starters).

We need to wise up and wise up fast to what's really going on and to what's really at stake here.

2
Barbieblonde 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is why they loathe Trump and hate us that support him and us as a sovereign nation.

Obama and his cronies were bleeding us dry to win this economic war for our enemies. They were counting on Hillary continuing where he left off and going exponentially further with the Paris Accord and other climate change thefts of our nation's treasure.

Trump realized that we were losing a real war and put a stop to it... booming our economy and tanking China and the E.U.

Their only choice was to either accept this new reality where the United States goes back to acting in the interest of it's own people, keeping America First or waging asymmetric economic war.

The Chinese Virus... is an economic "thermonuclear" weapon.

I'd say that well over half of the people in the world would agree.

2
somenobody 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm convinced the whole "China is cheaper" thing is a lie anyway. These people go on and on about how we need to cut costs but you never see these motherfuckers build HQs outside of anywhere but the most expensive cities on Earth and good luck finding a single advertising campaign that cost less than 8 figures. I guarantee you if it were ever legitimately cheaper to manufacture in the US, and it will be the moment China breaks out into another one of its scheduled civil wars, they won't even attempt to bother.

Outsourcing was never about costs. It was about taking power from the people.

1
2016TrumpMAGA 1 point ago +1 / -0

Outsourcing was never about costs.

It was about supply line stability. A friend manufactures widgets that require some electronics. His story: If he has the electronics made in the USA, there are something like twenty different suppliers involved. A strike at any one of the suppliers, or by any transport moving parts from supplier A to sub-assembler B throws off his whole process. He can lose tens of thousands because some union, somewhere decides they want another $.25 an hour. When he sends the job to china, he gets back the completed electronics when they said he'd get them. No strikes, no delays. He has to trash about 3% for quality issues, but that doesn't matter, because he gets them when he needs them.

EDIT: It is also about exporting pollution, but that's a different rant.

1
Side-o-Beef_Curtains 1 point ago +1 / -0

The Chinese lie and deceive 24/7 as a way of life... how they get ahead of the next person or past an obstacle... for their own personal/family gain.

They all honestly believe Americans are unable to survive without them. They bargain putting each of us into further debt as a “bipartisan” accomplishment. I’m not going to fucking thank a damn one of them for not doing their damn job & dicking us around with these money sucking distractions. They know as well as all of us do that we’re being hijacked. This virus has conspiracy written all over it. We’re allowinf then to lock us up at home, drain our savings, screw up our kids schooling, etc. & they’re up there arguing over $25 million House pay raises, $300 million for a NY arts center, & even more funding to “refugees”. We have drain the swamp; & at this point, it’s all swamp.

Basedkekistani2020 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wrong. They tried to make it seem LARGER by intentionally leaving out asymptomatic cases from the denominator, and the vast majority of those with the Chinese WuFlu Virus are mild or asymptomatic.

For God's sake they won't test unless you jump through a trillion hoops.

Basically unless you're going to the ICU for it they test and of course, if you sample the death rate in hospice care your numbers are trash.

When comparing to the flu mortality rate, they estimate for untested cases, with KungFlu they only use hard cases that are obviously severe because that's who's getting the test.
