How do we start a movement? I was just talking to my sister about this. The media must be held accountable for their actions in not only this but all of their fake news and stealth edits/retractions. The people have had enough.

Edit: I guess better phrasing is: Many in my community are furious with the media and want to get involved in holding them accountable. Where can we start?

The_Litehaus_Abides 143 points ago +146 / -3

We need a Department of Justice. Media needs to be charged with sedition because they knowingly and maliciously tried to crash our economy -- a Soros specialty, btw.

75
IncredibleMrE1 75 points ago +77 / -2

The media is running cover for the Dept of Injustice while it keeps itself busy with Stone and Flynn. Anyone heard anything about Durham recently? Wasn't he supposed to be wrapping things up around this time?

51
The_Litehaus_Abides 51 points ago +51 / -0

Good point. Durham's probably been put on hold with everything else. Maybe permanently. How convenient.

And President Trump reeds to pardon Flynn and Stone ASAP, because the DOJ is beyond corrupt.

What the DOJ can only try one case at a time now? With the $30 billion a year we pay them, they should be able to handle hundreds, even at government efficiency.

They could still send goods as long as they treat them like gas stations in dodgy areas. Define quarantine date for goods with zero people. Let them load the goods off the boat on a quarantined area. Wait the period. Then get the goods. And increase tariffs to pay for it all.

At the voting booth. I'm not being sarcastic, either. In the 2008 crisis the major media companies were given mind boggling sums of federal dollars to prop them up. Start all the movements you want, if the Dems are cutting them bailout checks every time they run out of money, they ain't going anywhere.

I'm thinking a class action lawsuit. Small businesses, medium, large, and citizens can easily demonstrate real monetary damages due to media overflowing the situation. It has to be illegal to purposely induce panic and hysteria.

Edit: the lawsuits have to start somewhere. You or your local businesses need to find good attorneys. Maybe the ones that succeeded in getting payouts from CNN for the Covington boys?

Yep. He went from predicting 500,000 deaths in the UK to 20,000, more than half of whom he now says would have died by the end of the year anyway because are so old/sick. He also claimed there would not be enough ICU beds- now says the hospitals will be fine. Also, just last week thought 18+ months of quarantine would be necessary- now says it will peak and subside within 2 to 3 weeks. This is the guy whose work the media has constantly cited- fueling panic.

62
aparition42 62 points ago +62 / -0

Weird how I, not a professional epidemiologist but just a lowly data analyst with access to publicly available historical data, was able to predict essentially the exact same thing way back when the professional worst case scenario imaginers was still saying we were all going to die.

These regularly occurring novel virus outbreaks barely move the needle on all-cause mortality because the majority of deaths are "stolen" from other causes. When more people die of virus A, fewer people die of viruses B through Z.

21
KM4JNW 21 points ago +21 / -0

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't US death rate trajectory from COVID-19 Kung Flu still less that the H1N1 death trajectory? So far it looks like COVID-19 will kill less people than H1N1 (swine flu) of 2009-2010 here in the US. Am I wrong?

16
aparition42 16 points ago +16 / -0

Little talked about fact, H1N1 is the strain of influenza that caused the much touted "Spanish flu" outbreak of 1918. It's been around at LEAST 100 years, so if you count the entirety of its death toll, then CoV-19 has a LOT of catching up to do.

Just limiting it to the bad flu season of 2009-2010, so far H1N1 is still worse. It's unusually more dangerous to people between the ages of 25-65, while CoV-19 only seems to be really dangerous to the same elderly or chronically ill people that any common cold virus can kill.

Here's the real trick, though. H1N1 wasn't "that bad" either. Around 3.8 MILLION Americans die every year. Pneumonia as a complication from flu or colds is in the top ten causes of death for every age group 0-25 and 65 and up EVERY YEAR. Whenever a specific virus gets famous for killing more than its share, it generally means FEWER people are dying from all the other viruses.

As a result, all-cause mortality barely changes. The odds of you dying from any viral infection are still lower than the odds of you dying in a slip-and-fall accident. Of course the MOST likely cause of death BY FAR is old age, but that doesn't sell the papers.

12
HuggableBear 12 points ago +12 / -0

You could take every person infected with this shit right now, kill them all, and it wouldn't be a blip on the annual mortality rate.

This shit is so overblown it's ridiculous. I don't like Bill Mitchell, but he phrased it correctly: It's a viral pneumonia that the media is making people believe is the black plague.

No the Imperial College report always predicted that if drastic “suppression measures” were taken like shutting down social gatherings and nonessential businesses, then the deaths would be limited to the thousands. https://twitter.com/jeremycyoung/status/1239975682643357696?s=21

13
Trump4a3rdTerm 13 points ago +15 / -2

Most of the country has not taken anywhere near the level of "drastic measures" they suggested- face it, he dramatically overestimated the impact. Even he now admits it. To suggest otherwise is the worst kind of revisionist history. Also, they predicted, even if the most draconian measures were taken to slow the spread, all the ventilators would be in use. Not even close.

2
Stationhollow 2 points ago +2 / -0

He admitted it after he got infected lol.

1
Frednut1 1 point ago +1 / -0

Source? Did you read the report? Where did you see he admits he overestimated? You realize we haven’t even come close to peaking yet, right?

Take a look at this plot. This is an exponential growth consistently of about 30% per day so far. This is a logarithmic plot. It’s growing quickly. Brace yourself. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-MdH022qBRottbaOV4qYKRHZ-rBC1Ozh/view?fbclid=IwAR27sSanGqVhl28ELCxghfH7AWTINyFzDfQVnLBgcgG_XM4OulT3nxFpYWI

  1. Mitigation measures were not enacted to the level they suggested
  2. Most mitigation measures that have been enacted were done 2 to 3 weeks later than they suggested
  3. Even if the government enacted the most draconian mitigation measures, at the time they were suggested, they predicted every ventilator would currently be in use- clearly that is not happening
  4. He himself admits his underlying assumptions were incorrect

He was drastically wrong and it has little to do with the government response, which has been much slower than what he called for and not nearly as stringent. His estimates, which the media ran with, have put over 3 million Americans out of work. There needs to be accountability for all who pushed this madness. And that does not mean the China Virus is not a serious public health issue- but the only people the media had on tended to be those spreading panic. Scientists that said we were overreacting were not given equal time to make their case. That was wrong.

37
Trump4a3rdTerm 37 points ago +37 / -0

Trump already knows this. That is why he wants to reopen the economy by Easter. The left want it to drag on for another month or 7. If they are successful in driving his numbers down to the point of him losing, then miraculously the virus is no longer a threat and it was because of proactive governors shutting down their states.

Here's the deal, I don't blame Trump for this, he has to take a threat of a pandemic seriously but I believe this was planned by the Chinese and the globalists to crash our economy. I wouldn't put it past the Chinese to pull other measures before the election like with bonds. I think we've been had but until this is over keep your memory fresh and your anger directed in the right place .

The world needs better leaders. Just like Trump says, the doctors will all ask for two years. That's fine of course they are health officials. The economic official probably wants nothing to ever shut down. That's also fine they are the economic official.

A good leader weighs the opinions of all advisors and tries to find a middle ground.

9
still-at-work 9 points ago +9 / -0

This, 100% this, health advisors will recommend isolation for a year to be safe, they don't know the unintended consequences of such an action. Society is all about compromise of risk managment. We have cars even though car accidents kills tens of thousands each year because the value of the car is worth it. The value of a functioning economy is worth ten thousand deaths but not worth a million, where to draw the line is what grest leaders do, this is the hard calaculus of real politik. Every life is presious but in a nation of 300 million statistically almost any action that affects them all will kill some. So its all about what degree in scale we are acceptable with, as dark as that sounds.

8
HughGRection 8 points ago +8 / -0

The health officials damn well should know the consequences of such an action. Can you imagine the mental health impact of shutting down a society for a year? Older people will die simply from the isolation, as will those on the edge of offing themselves. Even healthy minded people would be scarred, kids will be for sure. It's unfathomable what health impacts that would cause.

It sounds like I'm being a nit-picky bitch here but IMO it's important that people understand that "middle ground" does not equal solutions. Middle ground is communism. Middle ground is prison. Good solutions are something entirely different. Fuck "middle ground" right in the face.

They may be trying to shift to other models, since the UK guy has been lambasted recently.

While I acknowledge the massive stranglehold the MSM has on America, in my house Ive been optimistic that these lockdown orders won't last very long, and especially not anywhere the lengths the MSM will try and get you to believe.

Why? Because I knew that the odds of this virus being anything close to what they say it might be were slim to none, and at some point the raw data would no longer be open to panic inducing speculation.

Anyone who has ever engaged with me on this I simply redirect them to the numbers the CDC has on every pandemic, including the seasonal flu, and let them make an interpretation for themselves.

Many will still cling to the headlines, but some I've talked to snap out of it and see the situation for what it is. Pretty soon these headlines will start to fade out.

The real question is, which I've heard many people calling for here, is how do we get the public to remember how much they were lied to once this thing blows over? Hopefully we figure that one out quick, because we are running out of time until they find the next thing to latch on to

6
deleted 6 points ago +6 / -0
5
Yucky 5 points ago +5 / -0

That's the hardest part, getting people to remember. They have a 3 day memory. If it's not at the top of Google news, Twitter and Reddit, then it doesn't exist.

That said, people tend to remember things more when they cause them pain. That's just how the brain works. A lot of people still remember 2008. Why? Because massive pain was involved. Hopefully the same will be true about this panic scare.

3
PolarBears4Trump2020 3 points ago +3 / -0

All good points. It will be hard to have people remember how much they were and are lied to by the MSM. One of the MSM's main jobs is to generate confusion and panic

Almost completely unwarranted too. It's fucking our economy. It's taking our jobs. It's ruining relationships. It's redefining our entire everyday lives and it's a huge load of shit. It completely fucks almost all small businesses, especially in retail. Think about it - these mandated shutdowns for "non-essential" businesses is causing people to shop on Amazon (fuck you, Jeff Bezos, you greedy jackass) instead of purchasing products locally. Wake the fuck up, sheeple!

This post is exact opposite of what happened.

Market crashed when demand dropped for oil. Oil crashed 30%. Stock markets followed.

Original report from Ferguson showed worst case scenarios if action wasn't taken.

Trump took action. Shut down travel from Europe almost immediately, and then the U.K.

Market was already in freefall. Infections were already starting in New York because de Blasio and Dems encouraged people to underestimate seriousness of the disease. They encourage people to go to Chinatown for Chinese New Years as a fuck you to Trump for the travel ban.

Now Ferguson is saying that with the new restrictions in place, the death toll in U.K. can be held to 20,000.

The market in the U.S. is going up again because Trump and Pence's 15 day plan is working. It's buying time to test hydroxychloroquine and keeping hospitals from being overwhelmed.

It's given Congress the certainty to pass the $2 trillion stimulus and re-open the country in two weeks - with hotspots like New York still being shut down.

The major players in the financial markets knew what was going to happen back in December and January. Do you really think multi-billion dollar banks like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs would lose billions of dollars based on some professor in the U.K.'s theory without running models themselves?

Or that Trump would go along with it without confirming the models himself with other experts? And using his own common sense?

Think.

What are your thoughts on China taking advantage of the situation (a weakened/distracted West)..

I've always wondered when China was going to instigate a major offensive and disguise it as 'From Russia w/ Love'... but this virus seems to accomplish more than any conventional offensive ever could., A real war would unite the West against the common enemy - but this very sudden problem and an all-too real [communist] solution pre-packaged and ready to go...

I have serious concerns (lol, not concern trolling!) about our ability to survive this unless we All realize what is happening. Covid-19 isn't as much of a threat as the impending police-state that Trump might not be able to keep control of. I trust in God, and Trump, and myself... but the driver in me knows you can't control everyone else on the road, you can only react and expect them to do what they're indicating. Lots of idiots out there trying to turn this into forever change. (Microsoft, Soros+, people like Trudeau and the others.. Deepstate/WHO/China+..)

1
Stationhollow 1 point ago +1 / -0

If this is truly a man made virus test run where they were simply testing the infectious incubation period with just flu symptoms then a real deployment sounds scary.

2
Victorkm 2 points ago +3 / -1

Yeah people are reacting wrongly to this report. The updated 20k toll is based on policy and enforcement changes that were made, not on incorrect modeling. The original report even said that these measures would likely be necessary for up to 2 months then the concentration of the virus would have dropped low enough to relax the restrictions. Then they said it may become necessary after another month to increase restrictions again as the virus spreads and so on until a vaccine is developed. If the Chloraquine cocktail is proven an effective treatment and better tests are developed and people get tested before they see symptoms, restrictions may not need to be ramped back up because the effective treatment and testing will take their place.

That stuff will end and it will have to end soon because you can't coop a society up for months on end without serious consequences. People will have to get this virus, that is absolutely inevitable. We can only hope to protect the most at risk. How did his forecast change?

9

Reopening the economy is a must and I dont think we will see a significant uptick in cases like they are reporting (knock on wood). We will see some unfortunately. However, it wont be as significant. The virus/media has scared enough people that the social distancing will continue to occur, in the sense that people are going to keep their distance are going to be clean freaks and germaphobes to the highest degree. On top of that in April some states will begin to see humid 80 degree weather start coming in to play. Add to that the impact of improving herd immunity, the Hydro Chloriquin treatment, and all the new information coming out......I think its a calculated risk that must be taken.

2
Frednut1 2 points ago +7 / -5

This is all wrong. The report predicted 2M deaths if only mild “mitigation measures” were taken, like social distancing for the elderly. The same report said that if more drastic “suppression measures” were taken, like those that have actually been taken, then the deaths would be limited to the thousands. There is no “he was totally wrong.” The governments followed the advice in the report and now are seeing the predictions play out as expected.

Lol. Yeah, bullshit. The Brits let the virus run unchecked until two days ago. And big chunks of the country are ignoring the lockdown order. If it really is that easy to put the virus genie back in the bottle, then it isn't a very deadly virus.

If we were really looking at Spanish flu level death rates, new jersey alone should have 30,000 deaths, on the way to 60,000 total. so far NJ has less than 100.

So kindly fuck off.

How do you explain Italy, where coffins are piling up in parking lots and the death rate is ~1000/day? Is that just a normal flu? Anyway, I wasn’t making a point about the validity of the predictions, I was pointing out that the OP says the author of the report is recanting on his original predictions, but he is not doing that at all.

SPEZ: UK is just a week or so behind France. About 3 weeks behind Italy. Just a few days behind the US. Let’s check in and see how things are going there in a few weeks. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-MdH022qBRottbaOV4qYKRHZ-rBC1Ozh/view?fbclid=IwAR27sSanGqVhl28ELCxghfH7AWTINyFzDfQVnLBgcgG_XM4OulT3nxFpYWI

Yeah, starting to seem clear that overreaction is the norm at this point. To me the correct answer now is high risk individuals (60+ YO, respiratory issues, compromised immune systems) and those in their households should be allowed to continue to self isolate without fear of losing jobs/etc.

The rest should be allowed to return to normal life over the next 2-3 weeks. Recommend people take measures as if it were a particularly nasty flu situation (which is basically what this is). Frequent hand washing, avoid high risk areas as much as possible, make sure your general health is as good as possible (eat right, get enough sleep, quit smoking, etc.).

2
iamdone 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm sorry, I'm lost. Who is he talking about?

2
Mother_of_gains 2 points ago +2 / -0

Guys...he predicted over 2 million deaths in the US.

Adjusted for population, that's what the Spanish flu would have killed in the US. And that's not taking into account that medical care has improved dramatically in the past 100 years.

So basically this fucktard was saying COVID-19 would have the same impact as the Spanish flu.

Unfortunately for him, reality caught up with his dumbass model. Civilian deaths for the Spanish flu started trickling in around early September 1918. By early October, people were dying in the fucking streets. New York City alone had a total of 30,000 deaths in those two months. Adjusted for population, we would expect to see 50,000 deaths in NYC.

By this time, even with social distancing, NYC should have 25,000 - 30,000 deaths.

NYC is currently around 200 deaths.

Anybody running around saying that he "updated the model" to account for social distancing is fucking brain dead. By week two or three of the Spanish flu, most people were on lockdown, with the exception of the city of Philadelphia.

This was pitched as the new Spanish flu, and it isn't even fucking close. Not remotely in the same ballpark.

I agree with POTUS' 2 week off approach. This is a deadly virus for the elderly, and we needed time to move resources around. Now that we've done that, it's time to get back to work.
