And why would they? They're the best of the best and the fittest of the fit and that specific duty doesn't even put them in close prolonged proximity to others.
If you’ve got to be doing something during a pandemic it’s hard to think of a safer job. Standing outside in a wide open area with a rifle and full authority to threaten anyone who gets in your way.
Also the cemetery is currently closed to visitors (although funerals continue).
That is what boggles me. Not American, but in Canada we have a tomb of the unknown soldier too, with a permanent posting. Years ago a terrorist killed one of the Guards (RIP Cpl Cirillo) and in response the memorial now has 2 police officers posted to guard the guards..... At a cost of some decent money... Just load their mags! They're their own issued firearms too! Perfectly functioning. And 8760 hours of police officer guard is very expensive per year, a lot more than 30 rounds of 5.56 * 2
Your comment made me want to look it up
Turns out the USA appears keep them loaded, or in their words, "fully functioning"
Even if they were in proximity it would be pathetic if they gave up their post because of CV fears. So I'm happy (but not surprised) to hear that they won't.
To you or me it might seem boring, but from what I've read its like the highest of honors to be selected to for Tomb of the Unknown Soldier duty. They seek out the position. Mad respect indeed.
It'd be hard for me to stand ramrod straight for hours at a time, but I definitely respect what they do it for: honoring the fallen. Aside from having to periodically yell at the occasional loudmouth visitor or intrusive selfie-taker who crosses the ropes, they are never within 30' or so of a visitor. They should be fine.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is my favorite monument. Cream of the crop soldiers diligently guarding the burial sight of their fellow veterans while the identity of our Unknowns is sought out so they can finally be laid to rest. Arlington and Tomb of the Unknown is always such an emotional trip. I just wish our veterans were treated with this much reverence while they were alive.
The tomb of the unknown soldier (TOtUS) always gets to me emotionally. There is just something about fighting and dying with no acknowledgement (besides the tomb of course) and never being identified that hits me in the guts.
It seems like everyone wants credit for any little thing they do nowadays, or even taking credit for things they didn't do. TOtUS reminds everyone that the higher honor is sacrifice without credit. I believe that God himself watches that tomb (as well as the sentinels).
Do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, not for fame or fortune or medals. It's a lesson for everyone.

That’s a legit social distancing tool you have there.
There you have it. I certainly wouldn’t fuck with a top-notch infantryman holding a bayonet-equipped M-14! Cartridges or no cartridges.

The type of individual chosen to guard the tomb of the unknown soldier would never ever abandon their post. Never.
those men stand through hurricanes. they won't leave for a lil' sniffle.
Media propaganda.
LOL, I love this place!

We get the politicians we deserve.
True. Unfortunately.
The Old Guard doesn't ever abandon that post. They're basically superheros.

My boys were mesmerized just watching them at Arlington. We sat there forever!

Brought a tear to my eye... The USA is the best place on earth... a communist party virus isn’t going to change that with hell or high water.
Edit: bad grammar because I was too worked up over how awesome the USA is.
They don't believe the CCPs instructional videos on how to deal with the flu.
Step 1: hug an illegal immigrant
Yes they are. And a wonderful site to see for every American. I've seen them walk their posts twice and was in awe.

I have always loved what they do. It makes me proud to be an American !
Another great, meaningful American tradition that the left will probably find some way to reduce to toxic masculinity or white privilege or something.
“Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.”
Meanwhile the NYT, CNN, WaPo and MSNBC are absolutely giddy with the economic shutdown and people dying. There are traitors amongst us.
This should be stickied for a day
The best of the best.
KEEP YOUR FUCKING DISTANCE!

Thanks for posting this, Pede. Real history matters!!
Should still get the OK to wear a surgical mask; no one wants to see them suddenly laying on the ground.
Yea because what if they get a bad cold!? Abandon the country before you get a bad cold!!!!
Dude hes dead ! Don't the Chinese shit over some dead guy .
