I think a few things are happening. First, the compressed news cycle of this pandemic. The MSM says one thing one day "Relax, the flu is worse!" then a month later "OMG this is way worse".. and practically ever story is like that. They called it the chinese virus and then trump says it and "OMG that's so racist!!" and folks remember what they said before because of the compressed timeline.
Also, everyone is home, watching the news, looking at what is being said online, and there paying attention because they have the time to do so. They're seeing in real time how the MSM is lying to them.
When the MSM is out praising China, many remember China killing folks in Hong Kong.
Wait till they learn about the trainloads of Hong Kong kids who were sent north and disappeared as the outbreak "began in a wet market".
