China needs to do a USSR and break up into about 5 or 6 smaller countries. Let the people live their lives and have their freedom. MCGA

11
somethinga9230j 11 points ago +17 / -6

Why break up into smaller countries? What would be wrong with them continuing being unified? Isn't it communism that is the problem?

48
Megascandal 48 points ago +48 / -0

Well Tibet should be free, as should Hong Kong. China also has several other ethnic groups that have been oppressed for decades that might not want to remain part of china.

They're too diverse. Even when they were still properly unified as an empire, they were constantly fighting rebellions all the way until the last emperor was booted and the big civil war started.

9
somethinga9230j 9 points ago +10 / -1

Reg. languages, I found this from very quick skimming, though I admittedly do not know whether it is accurate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_China :

he predominant language is Standard Chinese, which is based on central Mandarin, but there are hundreds of related Chinese languages, collectively known as Hanyu (simplified Chinese: 汉语; traditional Chinese: 漢語; pinyin: Hànyǔ, 'Han language'), that are spoken by 92% of the population.

4
somethinga9230j 4 points ago +5 / -1

Yes, civil wars can definitely happen, that is fully true, and that has happened in many other countries, the USA included.

Do the vast majority of them not share closely related languages or dialect? Does the history of China not go back thousands of years? Did the Great Wall of China not span huge swathes of the country?

4
WhateverNecessary 4 points ago +5 / -1

US was also an abnormally diverse country, vastly more-so today.

Most of the history of China is one faction or another managing to conquer everyone else, suppressing them for as long as they can, then eventually getting overthrown by another faction who does the same. I don't think there's ever been a mutual, voluntary "union" of China.

The Qing emperors (last ones) were Manchu, who I think were from the Mongolians who conquered China centuries ago. But it's religion and culture that cause most of the problem. Look how bad Europe was with just different sects of Christianity, imagine if it was Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, and millions of militant-atheist commies instead, with all those divided in the usual politics, and you were trying to unite that Europe into one country. Can't even manage as it is. Closest it probably ever got was the guy with the mustache, and that didn't last very long.

Chicoms have worked hard to standardize the language and alphabet, but trying to forge a single identity has been going as well.

1
themightykekfish 1 point ago +1 / -0

So basically they booged in the wrong direction

7
hai_Priesty 7 points ago +7 / -0

There are lots of other reasons people above and many scholars around has detailed, the main reason for the breakup for me (I'm a Hong Kong born that emigrated) is that China is way too vast and diverse to have an aligned interest AND A COHERENT IDENTITY THAT SUITS >98% OF POPULATION. Even Hong Kong is not China (despite of the almost homogeneous Ethnic Chinese race there. There even less reason why Tibetans want to identify as "Chinese").

Imagine if....... instead of just having Puerto Rico as an outpost United Stated of America actually stretches all the way of North America as a Republic (sans the rather independent powers of the 50 States )? The El Savador people has vastly different needs than the Eskimos in Greenland, and Panama is perprtually b1tching about the not wanting to share the benefits of Panama Canal when they're already one of the poorer State.

That admonition of a "country" like that, it would have a curse of permanently in strife for centuries and centuries to no end.

3
somethinga9230j 3 points ago +3 / -0

I do not know enough about China as well as Tibet, my impression is somewhat that Tibetans very much want to be independent from China. I don't know enough about Uyghurs. Mongolians seem somewhat closer related to ethnic Chinese.

One extremely important aspect is that multiple smaller, weaker countries can be much easier to divide, conquer and rule, unless if they forge a strong and robust (against various kinds of attacks, strategies, etc.) way of cooperating. An important saying in the USA and elsewhere is "United we stand, divided we fall". This has been seen time and time again in history. If the early United States had not united or at least cooperated, they would most likely have been conquered by the British, the French, or others, or fought among each other and conquered by even weak powers. Various related tribes banded together in kingdoms in order to survive the attacks or competition from others throughout history. You of course cannot band together just anyone, and it is not always easy to make happen, but the nations and peoples that survived tended to succeed at this. Banding together in very large units have both advantages, drawbacks, vulnerabilities, etc., and there are other aspects as well.

If communist China ceased being communist, might it make sense for them to have a republic and a federation like the USA?

4
hai_Priesty 4 points ago +4 / -0

One extremely important aspect is that multiple smaller, weaker countries can be much easier to divide, conquer and rule, unless if they forge a strong and robust

While what you say makes sense, in a way many natives of Xinjiang and Tibet already feels like they are "The weaker countries that had been divided, conquered and rules for the CCP". The new cities that's been expanded in Xinjiang, in Chinese gov's attempt to modernize the local population, was (to them) actually more like a method to further marginalize them as the new towns are made up of, like, 90% Hans coming west to look for opportunities.

If communist China ceased being communist, might it make sense for them to have a republic and a federation like the USA?

China WAS A REPUBLIC for 3 decades under Kuomintang (after Sun Yat Sen overthrew the Qing Dynasty at 1911/2). It was done and it can be done again by someone less corrupt and inept than Chang Kai Shek. Tibet was also self-governed when China was a Republic....... then Mao came in there like a invader and a dictator (at least in my perspective).

2
mvrak 2 points ago +2 / -0

Because it is enormous and can't manage itself.

1
WishdoctorsSong 1 point ago +1 / -0

When it's one demographic dominating a few others ,it's a problem. There are different cultures on this earth and shoving them together into a single governing unit, particularly one where one culture massively outnumbers the others is always a recipe for disaster. See Russia, Yugoslavia, pretty much every single African country...

1
somethinga9230j 1 point ago +1 / -0

But there are still a very large ethnic Chinese majority, right? I could well imagine that you are right reg. the Tibetans and the Uyghurs (I have heard some rumours that Mongolians are somewhat closer and more related to ethnic Chinese than the other groups), but that would still leave a very large country at least.

2
Razeontherock 2 points ago +3 / -1

Yup. Stroking Xi's ego to pump him for information.

The war now isn't nuclear. It's for world opinion. US vs China, who to side with? CCP is making a concerted troll effort to build on momentum of the world hating US. If they win, our standard of living decreases drastically. If we win, theirs does. After this crisis, the whole world should unite to decide China owes the rest of the world a debt it can never repay, therefore:

  1. default on all debt to China

  2. nationalize all Chinese investment in our nations, and kick out all Chinese citizens, permanently

  3. boycott China

  4. disable / destroy their level 4 lab

  5. form a military alliance to guarantee that China never bullies anyone in the south China sea. It's the world's busiest trade route and they could tax, fee and piracy their way into being an economic powerhouse if left unchecked. China's also been overfishing all the waters of the world, put a stop to that while we're at it.

Now imagine if we lose this battle of world opinion, and similar measures are taken against US. We need to win this!

1
WeinerLapTop 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is nothing worse than an unpredictable enemy. Trump is that enemy; and, Xi doesn't know if he should turn pirouettes or squat and shit because of Trump.

Trump trash-talks our leftists all the time to get their panties in a wad because he knows that RINOs have always been pathetic, cringing appeasers, and his smackdowns have wrong-footed them for the first time in generations.

Conversely, he come across as very suave and polite to foreign dipshits when they're expecting exactly the same kind of crudity he delivers to the Media/Dems, so they can't get a handle on him, either.

He's a lot more brilliant than anybody ever gives him credit for: every jumped-up, self-important prick on the planet thinks he's both a clownish tool and unpredictably dangerous.

7
Razeontherock 7 points ago +7 / -0

DJT is unpredictably dangerous! Never has a POTUS had this kind of bargaining power:

some Central American Country "refuses" to take their own citizens back after we catch them trying to illegally cross our border? Ok. We'll load them all up into a military transport jet and drop them in the ocean off your coast.

Few would call his bluff.

Trump about China in 1990:

When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak … as being spit on by the rest of the world—

President Trump's last sentence has no subject, or verb, or object, leaving readers free to assume what they think he means. In the context some readers may assume he means 'I have much respect for Xi'. But the truth could be closer to 'China fears [respects] USA'. Personally I expect there is a bit of both.

3
Rightquercusalba 3 points ago +3 / -0

Trump understands that trade deals with China will be the key to jumpstarting the U.S economy. He also knows that China is rooting for Rapist Biden and that he needs to keep the economy from collapsing so his poll numbers remain stable. The public is still in panic mode, having states make the decisions allows Trump to inform the public and prevents Democrats from convincing the public at large that he is to blame for the economy tanking and states like New York suffering from the China Virus. Most of the hardest hit states are blue states, they are being given all the help they need and if they want to try to burn Trump down they will have to answer to their people. Meanwhile lesser impacted states have been given the freedom to open up business and get people back to work.

3
f_bastiat 3 points ago +3 / -0

Catch 22 for the MSM, either they have to somehow agree with Trumps Tweet, or do what they do 100% of the time and write 50 articles stating the opposite. So what is it CNN? Drive a hard bargain, but always give in just a little on your final price. This allows the merchant to not feel as though they lost something. Don't worry: No matter what they claim, they'll never actually lose money on a sale! You should be more concerned about how they feel after the sale is completed.
