I think it has to be combined with a zinc supplement.

Doctors in NYC are supplementing with zinc. The original small study in Marseilles did not have zinc and was effective. With zinc, presumably, is better for some reason.

Zinc is one of those homeopathic things that actually seems to work. Most of your over-the-counter cold "preventers" (Emergen-C, Zicam, Cold eze, etc.) contain zinc.

I dunno the science of what it's supposed to do, but my family has been swearing by it since the 80s.

Once the shelves are restocked (our local stores look like Old Mother Hubbard's cupboards) I am going to buy some and give them a try.

I'm a teacher and have kid in daycare. Trust me zinc works. I buy zicam melts at the start of a cold (and at this point I'm pretty good at recognizing that) and it's 2-3 days before it's completely gone. Zicam is amazing.
