But with "shelter in place" I can't keep track of the days so early Sunday Gunday? I wanted to see if anyone had a opinion about being a first time gun owner. I have my FOID card, but only been shooting a couple of times. My husband thinks the Walther Colt 1911 22 would be a good first fun for a lady like myself. Ideally, I would like to hold one in my hand and of course shit it but it seems I may need to order online. Anyone, especially the ladies on here, have one of these. Pros and cons?

If you're just getting it to practice shooting it would be an ok starter pistol. If you want something for home defense you'd probably want something with a larger round. If home defense I'd add a flash light or glow in the dark sights on the shopping list as well. I wouldn't recommend ordering online without at least having had held one in your hand. The more comfortable the ergonomics, weight, and recoil feel to you the more likely you'll shoot well with it.

My wife personally really liked the walther p22, but for home defense she went with the revolver. A lot of people recommend them and there's a good reason for it. Easy to load, won't jam, completely reliable. She went with a S&W 686 plus 357 magnum with the 5in barrel. I thought maybe it would be big for her but she loves it and is deadly accurate. My advice.... go to your local shooting range (if they're still open) and rent a bunch first. Everyone is different and it's all about what's comfortable in your hand and what you shoot well with.

It is NEVER early. But it's often too late.

Order online doesn’t mean it goes to your house. Just want make sure you’re aware.

You need a .38 revolver. Smith and Wesson make a great product in that size.

The .22 is easy to shoot with less kickback, but you need stopping power.

Good advice on needing to know how the grip fits your hand before buying, but also some manufacturers make alternate grips than the one you might be handling.

I loved my Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm, and it did not kick on me which has always been an issue for my aim and handling.

If you want a bigger caliber for defense keep in mind the grip size and options at a shop, balance in your hand, ease of using two hands if need be, sights, and kick.

And to do that you really really need to do it in person with as many alternates available as you can. Better to wait if you cannot now than to buy one that you simply cannot properly handle or is a toy in defense mode.
