Maybe she would have if she became a British citizen. She never did that though.

Harry cannot automatically become a US citizen by marriage – rather, Meghan will have to go through the formal process of petitioning for him to receive a ‘permanent lawful residency’, known as a Green Card.

Harry will be eligible to apply for full US citizenship in three years – but there is one stumbling block.

One question asks: ‘Do you now have, or did you ever have, a hereditary title or an order of nobility in any foreign country?’

If the answer is ‘yes’, the applicant is then asked if he or she is willing to give up those titles at a ‘naturalisation’ ceremony.

Harry will then have to decide whether to relinquish his Duke of Sussex title.

I also want to know if us is providing any security for them. They are not officially non royal until Tuesday.

How do we know she never did that?

Because she never gained British citizenship. Public was assured she wasn’t getting special treatment. She would be following same rules as everyone else. She never fulfilled the residency requirements or exam. Im not sure if she got indefinite leave to remain (basically a stamp they put in your passport). She would be stateless if she had given up us citizenship. Plus every uk news outlet reported on this aspect when Mexit happened. Pointed out they would have to pay tax in 3 places us canada and uk.

Yeah ok it’s a sun article

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10820081/meghan-markle-abandons-british-citizen-bid/

But here’s a bbc article

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42169602

Gives all the rules of what she would have to do to get citizenship.

In one way, an exception has been granted to her. Only uk citizens are given titles. She should not have had Sussex title until she had uk citizenship. Not that it’s hers. It’s harrys.

Thank you. Makes for good reading. I somehow missed most of that Mexit stuff (probably rallying ;-).

So I guess she travels under "sparkle" Markle name now.

I guess Harry hasn't read about King Edward's fun times with Wallis. And they gave her five years?

I say again--the disney docudrama is a don't.

Definitely agree. I’m waiting to see Trump say no secret service for you. Pay for it yourself. Wondering how long Charlie is going to keep footing the bill. Can’t see the marriage lasting long. Hadn’t thought of implications of a Cali divorce.

I have a question? Was she out of the States for 3 years? If the answer is yes she is not a U.S. citizen, even in the military you have to get special exemption for being out of the states for more than 3 years
