From experience the system needs more checks to ensure the money is going to the kids and is reasonably fair. It is horribly bias and really hurts men who want to be fathers. I've experienced both sides of this coin. A crazy ex from college with my own bad decisions, but I always fulfilled my commitments. Money went to god who knows for years and still paid for things I needed when had custody. Then my ex-wife who we have kids and didn't take me to the cleaners and parent our children very well. It's a double edge sword as there are both dead beat dad's and death beat mom's that exploit the system. People never talk about that part. Sorry for the rant.
Exactly! My parents divorced when I was 10 and my dad got full custody of me and my younger sister. My mother was pretty much non existent in our lives as she had moved all the way across the country to be closer to her family. We only saw her a couple times a year. She refused to pay child support so many times that the courts had to threaten her with arrest. I'm now 33 and my sister is 30 and I'm pretty sure my mother still owes child support.
Her wages were garnished, and the police did show up at her door but never arrested her. I believe that was enough to get her butt into gear. As for a passport, she'll never leave the state so can't comment on that. She does still drive though, so I guess you got me there.
Nothing to be sorry about. Men should be talking much more about what happens to them. There are some genuinely horrific stories.
It's not quite the double edge sword. The most clear evidence is the almost total acceptance of the biased system. If women were getting anywhere near the same level of treatment, be sure you'd hear about it in the news, from activists, and from politicians.
As far as dead beats, most of the CS debt (billions of dollars) is owed by the "dead broke", or "turnips" as they are called by social workers (can't squeeze blood from a turnip). Poor men who just keep being sent to jail. And while in jail they keep owing more and more debt. And during the whole process the kids suffer while everyone else lectures them about doing it for the benefit of the family.

Women are strong and independent until they get in family xourt, then it's the 1600s again. My argument is that if they can't support the child, why do they get custody? They should go to the person who would need the least financial assistance.
You forgot the safest home. Try winning custody when his mom's husband treatens her and had to go in for a threat of harm eval and she called 911 on her own husband. If she plays her cards right she still wins and you get an extra day custody. Plus she brain washes your child even more to despise you and your insanely loving family to the point you are now the bad one and he no longer wants to see you...
A friend of mine has a kid with a woman who spent every single dime he saved up when he deployed to Afghanistan. He almost went to prison because he couldn't keep up with the child support shit. Then the mother abandons the child to her own parents and goes to live with a witch coven or some bullshit because she's into wiccan religion. It's honestly crazy, but what stings the most is she's able to abandon her child and there are no repercussions. My friend wanted to be a father, and she wouldn't let him, and he had to pay so much he couldn't afford to live and buy food for himself.

You would be interested in the Custody of Infants Act of 1839. It's the origin of the Tender Years Doctrine that established default maternal custody.
Fathers used to have default custody because they were, by default, financially liable for most things.
Even if mom is a derelict drug addict or alcoholic, The burden of proof is on you as a father. She will still get default custody.
There is also a large time commitment for raising children that may be difficult to take on by yourself when you are working full time.
