At the same time we will get through this and shutting down the entire country long-term makes zero sense. Temporarily does make sense. As soon as we can test for antibodies and find people who are immune they can all interact normally. States and counties with fewer problems can return to more normalcy. It is dangerous, our hospitals in the US are just up to the task to alleviate the symptoms and treat the sick. Still, the ones most at risk of death are people who smoke, have a compromised immune system, and the elderly.
I too believe it is a strength to import people with cultures who don't understand/believe in public health or obeying laws.
I too believe the solution is not to enforce laws amoungst those people, and to teach them that they can disregard and disobey anything they won't want to. That is clearly good for civilization.

From what I remember from reading up on the flu vaccine it still doesn't prevent you from catching the flu, it just gives your immune system a better chance at fighting it because your body "remembers the enemy" and knows how to tackle it.
The biggest issue with the flu and coronavirus is that they mutate so fast that no one can guess exactly which viruses to put into the vaccine. Once you have contracted and fought off a specific type, like a variation of H1N1 the body recognizes it and has an easier time the second time around. I got a really bad flu when I was 19 that only hit young people because all the older people were immune. It was a variation of an earlier epidemic and when a new crop of people who had never contracted it grew up it came back. I never get the flu vaccine, but I do work hard to keep my immune system up. I have been pretty hard core during the outbreak except for sometimes not sleeping. I wake up and can't get back to sleep.
