Actually -- not very interesting, it coincides with fairly common maneuvers of Navy ships. Squares and circles is how a ship stays under weigh w/o going anywhere. Perhaps they were burning time to allow the sun to rise before entering port. Their could be a number of reasons for this maneuver. Sort of like an airline circling an airport, waiting for clearance to land
