This really doesn't make any sense, all you are doing is harming ordinary people, making it more difficult for them to get what they need.
The real answer is to not force small businesses to shut down, just require them to implement proper social distancing plans.
Im aware.
Its just odd I can still order a 5 foot "Made in China" dildo from Amazon so I can stop just metaphorically being fucked by China. Meanwhile local toy / book / hobby stores have to be closed, but you can still go to Walmart or Amazon prime.
I agree. And it's the left that is anti-business. Not the right. The left is anti big corp, we're all for a fiercely competitive marketplace. Yes, in a fiercely competitive marketplace sometimes small businesses get squeezed out, but the efficiencies of the market make the decision. Not the government.
And states where Target or Walmart can be open, small stores who sell similar shit are open too. Hardware stores are allowed to be open. Dollar stores are allowed to be open.
What's with these posts that look like they belong on r/politics or r/FeelTheBern?
The point is that due to this, Walmart has zero competition for "non-essential" items. You can still buy video games, art supplies, toys, ect from Walmart. Then on top of that, Walmart has shortened its hours to "protect employees" (i.e. their competition is forced to be closed) which then forces people to travel and gather together in larger numbers as apposed to shopping locally. I have never seen Walmart as consistently busy as it has been.
This. The shorter store hours makes no sense, unless you want to pack more people in at once, and spread infection.
Luckily, the beer aisle is in the grocery section.
Here in MN the Governor says liquor stores are essential businesses.
Came here to say this. Lol
See how easy it has been to show the slaves who really runs the show? How’s that freedom feeling right now? They didn’t even need those fema camps.
Silly question. Why can you not stay open?
Some states (Like PA) have ordered the closing of all non essential businesses. Food service can stay open but only take out, so McDonalds isn't affected but Donald's diner is. The book store, hobby store, toy store, has to close, but Walmart can stay open because they sell groceries.
So instead of people shopping at local smaller stores near them, they are going to Walmart, whose parking lot is absolutely packed 24/7 and people aren't buying just groceries.
Spez: Walmart has even shortened their hours (they claim to protect employees) but that is just leading to a more crowded store. In reality all the competition has been closed, so they are just reducing their operation costs.
I have never seen Walmart so crowded in March. Shelves are empty. It looks like Black Friday. We are supposed to social distance and yet they close tons of stores and force us all to cram in Walmart.
I understand that. Why don't you just stay open?
I know it sounds easy, but I know of our dogs groomer who tried to stay open during Illinois' shelter in place order. She was doing everything she could to lower any risks of spreading the virus, going out to vehicles to grab the pets and keeping people out of her business. Someone must not have liked it and called the police on her and forced her to shut down still. How much force and what threat of action is unknown to me but the fact remains that they forced her to cease business that is her sole source of income. I feel bad for her and I will probably be trying to shave my dogs myself as it's getting warmer out.
I'm still failing to see, other than taking them to actual jail which I think is illegal and you'd probably have an amazing case, that they can force you to close. Even if I had a sign that said "I don't give two poops about this virus, come in at your own risk", I just don't understand their "force".
I'm a self employed trim carpenter. I would laugh in anyone's face, police, governor, anyone, who would try to tell me to leave a home because we deemed your job not a priority... And if they tried to, there would be a serious problem.
You teach people how you want to be treated. This seems to go for government too. It's looking like our freedoms that are God given, might actually take a bit of work for a change.
Police. They will arrest you. No such thing as a local cop any more who will tell the over reaching state of fuck off. In fact they tend to hire people from outside the area and move cops around a bit to prevent a cop from connecting to much with his community.
Yeah, but here's the thing...they will arrest you, but they are letting criminals out of jail cause Coronavirus! lol
Shelter in place...but let the criminals out!
🤡
Can you show me any articles where normal everyday citizens are being arrested and forced to close?
Edit: not judt closed their doors but actually refused to close and then they were arrested.

Thanks for this, that's interesting. I wonder if they guy will do it again.
Edit: if you think about the amount of money he is losing, I'm curious if he'll continue.
You sound like one of those sovereign citizen nutcases.
You don't stay open because there is a government order for you not to, and if you do, people will report you and then they will send the men with guns and the authorization to use them to shut you down.
Now quit your bullshit.
Nah, good try. Just a US citizen with a backbone. You take your bullshit to someone else. You can't be a pussy your whole life.
Cant gather in groups greater than 10 to do things like eat in a restaurant, because CHYNAVIRUS....but it's totally okay to stand shoulder to shoulder with 800 people in walmart waiting for the shelves to restock.
Sam Walton truly was a genius
Like it
umm, no. There are things that people need that aren't groceries, such as toothpaste, toilet paper, dish soap, tampons, baby wipes, etc.
I guess you've never been to a grocery store. Those are groceries.
Weird. I thought liberals hated big business. Sure seems like they are stacking the deck for big businesses.
Lol. And GameStop, which is attempting to save it's failing business model and the tons of jobs it has, tried to stay open. But since the gaming community is full of douchebag leftists they all screeched and reeeeee'd until local govt forced GameStop to close in California.
Literally across the street best buy remains open.
It's. All. Faggotry.
Open up the businesses. Let older people self quarantine. Get the hydroxy cure to every hospital.
Got to be honest, I’m not losing any sleep over GameStop being shut down.
Youre an idiot if you think groceries are the only essential items sold at walmart.
Be glad that bill passed, and small businesses should be taking advantage of it. I know this sucks, but honestly I'm not sure why a business would go out of business, if they use all the tools that have been provided to them. Also, once this shit is over, I think people are going to be busting out and wanting to go to all the places they haven't been able to for this time.
I lost my small business and won’t return for a host of reasons. Namely, the products I need have become unavailable and the businesses with whom I had contracts (like game stop) have shuttered their doors and won’t be returning.
The loan they offered me would only go to the employees I had as they would be sitting on their thumbs with nothing to do. The requisites for the loan were such that the money could not be used where it would be needed because you can not lay off the employees.
I could take the loan, invest in refilling stock and paying rent with the intent on paying it back, but why would I take the risk ever again if the government can chop me down at the knees any time someone coughs?
I’m out and not returning.
Have the products become unavailable because they were made in China?
Not in my case, because I’m a service provider. The products I do sell are only 10% of my income. The other 90% is the labor for the maintenance I provide.
I do rely on the retail businesses ability to stay open and they are certainly set up with a foreign supply chain. If they can’t make income because of this fact then I am indirectly affected negatively.
This is the major problem. We have become a service oriented nation. Once the few guys at the top are incapacitated, almost everyone below them takes a hit. If we don’t start making everything here in the states, we will never climb out of this hole.
I won't pretend that I've read everything to do with these loans, but I do know that paying employees is only one expense that can be covered. Many, many other expenses can also be covered. Also, paying employees (as I've read it) is the requisite for being able to have the loan mostly forgiven.
Yes, but the businesses that I had contracts with are gone and not returning. That’s the crux of the matter. Without the service contracts to provide maintenance to those businesses, I’ve got no way to make income like I did before the shuttered their doors. It could take a year or better to land new contracts, but the loans are for 2.5 months only.
That does nothing to help the small business owners like me. Think of a shark and the remora that’s swims beneath waiting for scraps from his meal. If the shark dies, the little fish have nothing to eat.
he's not reopening his VHS rental store because muh government.
