A little media sensationalism, and boom. Public gatherings are now against the law, in some places GOING OUTSIDE is against the law, and more people have filed for unemployment than did in the 2009 crash. All for our own safety.
And they encountered no resistance. We just went along with it. Now there's no end in sight, and no peak in sight, all of the wealth that was amassed over the past three years is gone, and all it took to destroy all that we've built was a couple talking heads - who will never even feel any of this financial ruin - to tell us we're all going to die.
I have no doubt this country will recover from this, but we are in trouble.
And if there's something I'm missing, or haven't taken into account, I'm all ears. Please ELI5 why I'm wrong; don't just call me a concern troll. Because I'm concerned.
Here in NZ we have lost virtually every civil right. Police patrol our streets, run roadblocks, and enforce their whim based on vague emergency powers. Neighbours enthusiastically inform on others in a manner that would make the East German Stasi blush. Every day, announcements from the government and the Police tighten the noose more and more. NZ has had one death, a woman in her 70's who was very ill already. Only a few ICU admissions in total. We have moved from being, at least ostensibly, from being a Western democracy to being a Police State. It took less than a week.
How's that gun confiscation working for you. Gives a little more insight to America's obsession with guns and lack of governmental trust.
