Long time lurker, first post, Michigan field report.
I lurked on T_D for years and loved the memes but I am starting to get angry about this Hydroxychloroquine thing. I am Michigander and seeing Gretchen Whitmer threaten doctors is pissing me off and has a lot of people around me starting to wake up about Trump. I have heard some real Trump haters I know praise his moves so I think the poll movement is real.
In my opinion, this is the first dispute that rises above a vanilla political spat. People are starting to see that the Dems and the MSM truly hate this country. I believed this to a degree for years but even I thought it was a 'difference of vision' or 'we have higher expectations' kinda thing. I voted for Trump but I wouldn't defend him calling Press "enemy of the people". I was wrong. The way that the MSM are campaigning against a cheap and effective drug is fucking Satanic. I still think there are some patriotic lefties but none work in MSM.
I am no longer maintaining appearances. I am on a campaign to educate every person I know. KAG
P.S. I think Trump will win Michigan again. The reason Whitmer won is because everyone HATED Snyder and for good reason. I am a union pipefitter and probably half of my local union brothers are vocal Trump supporters but I don't know a single one who voted for a R Gov candidate Bill Schuette (besides myself) after Flint Water Crisis or Right-to-Work. I am still pro-union but I am no shill. I swear to God I will never vote D after this.
I've been screaming about this gubernatorial election forever. The state level Republicans were beyond weak. Everybody freaked when Whitmer took office and immediately called for 45 cents more in fuel tax. It's what she ran on, but nobody listened. They wanted someone other than Schutte.
Meanwhile our newly elected Democratic Attorney General on June 13, 2019, dismissed all pending criminal cases tied to the Flint water crisis.
Schuette was meek and feckless but I can’t believe the amount of people that fell for her “fix the damn roads” bs. Michigan Republicans need to get strong and embrace the MAGA agenda to defeat the Dems.
I'm not in MI, but you two are absolutely right. Running strong candidates is essential. Republicans really don't get excited about weak candidates. They're not going to show up to vote for them. I know, it's lazy, but that's how it is.
Running strong Republican candidates is critical. They should be scouting 24/7 for good candidates.
It also usually starts at the local level. People want someone with political experience. Protest candidates and celebrity candidates are worthless and almost always lose. Start with a city council person, maybe a sheriff, a county supervisor and cultivate that person's career so they can eventually run for higher office.
