I am getting a little nervous - HCW with COVID19 exposure - sent home Friday because I developed a very mild cough with chest irritation. I felt basically fine until this afternoon... but starting to feel a little achy and maybe feverish... I feel like something is off.
I am trying not to freak out, but I am definitely on edge.
I am beating myself up because I didn't think to get a thermometer before all this happened - haven't used it since kids were little and can't find it in the house. Of course there are no thermometers to be found right now. Hubby will be looking for a thermometer...at least he bought a pulse oximeter a couple of weeks ago. So I know my lungs are working OK right now.
I think there is nothing to do but wait. I will either get sick or not get sick and at this point it's out of my control. I guess I have to make peace with that.
Be thankful you have a hubby to help you. I'm going through the same thing but have my 5 year old to take care of. She is fine and has little empathy, though she is trying. My ex wife--not so much. Fucking sucks.
that does suck... yes, I am thankful to have other folks to lean on...I hope you are feeling better soon. I think I will take the advice of whoever said to do something to take my mind off this. I am going to get myself all worked up about it. Maybe I'll go try to read a book. And drink some water. And take a Tylenol.
Exactly what I've been doing. Reading, enjoying teching/being with my kiddo, playing piano, cooking, etc. Just tough, but what the fuck else is new. Life is hard and takes effort--but I ain't giving up. My dad passed when I was her age, and I'm not trying to let her grow up without me. Fuck that. Peace and love and blessings to you and your family.
Yes and in the vast majority of cases, people recover. A couple days ago, LA, with 10 million people, had only 7 deaths. Unless you're very old and/or very ill from other causes, you'll be fine.
I found a thermometer. And have a script for a test tomorrow. So I think I’ve done all I can do now.. zinc, citrus fruit, water. I sanitized the place a little. I have food for the next 24 hours ready though no crockpot. But easily microwaveable. Might do more fluids because I am feeling thirsty now. Checked in with people. Time to read a book and settle into bed.
Thanks everyone.
In the meantime, find yourself a Dr. with some gonads, who isn't afraid to prescribe hydroxychloriquine.
Feel Better,
Prayers and well wishes your way.
thx - I'm also in quarantine and I think being alone makes it worse...
Being alone does make it worse. Develop some kind of a routine it makes the time go by faster.
Pray to God, in direct supplication, ask that you be healed and restored. Pray for help, for everyone. All throughout scripture, is the admonition not to worry because The Lord, Your God, is with you. You will be isolated due to the illness and God will find you in that place of isolation, hearing your prayer, and touch you with His peace by His comforter, The Holy Spirit.
My mother was feeling the same way, I made her go to a drive thru clinic and get tested, due to preexisting conditions she has. Turns out she has “Flu type A”, not the Flu-Manchu. Google to see if you have a covid clinic nearby and put your mind to rest one way or another.
You have my best wishes. Drink some oj if you have any
thx. No OJ, but had grapefruit juice, plus ate three oranges. and Zinc.
Turn off the news/media, take Tylenol for fever, stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. Turn on SOMETHING that keeps your mind on "other things" and know WE ARE ALL HERE for YOU!!! We're not hearing about ALL those that had mild symptoms or recovered completely...YOU WILL TOO!!!
this is good advice. Me worrying is not helping anything. Ok, I will step away, get a drink, some Tylenol (I don't know if I have a fever because I stupidly don't have a thermometer) and try to read a book.
Jesus, This! The media are the ones whipping us into a lather over this.
If you're younger and in good health then even if you do have it you'll probably be fine.
Can you get tested? Or not unless you develop additional symptoms?
Good luck,,,and if you do have to quarantine, having a bunch of alone time to rest up isn't so bad.
I called and they said I meet criteria for testing now.
I called work about testing Friday and they said I didn't meet criteria (wasn't sick enough). I'll try again later.
Wishing you well!!!
No NSAIDS!!!! Only acetaminophen or Tylenol!!
Take several vitamin C tablets, or if you don't have them, eat three oranges one after the other.
Take the hottest shower you can stand.
Have water next to your bed and drink water frequently.
If you have a crock pot, fill it and turn it on.
Take your temperature now and note time and date.
Wipe down all your doorknobs, light switches, faucets, whatever you routinely touch. If you have the strength, clean the bathroom and kitchen. Change all towels and sheets.
Alert a friend you can contact by cell phone.
Wear warm clothes and a knit hat, stay warm. Sleep in the hat. Have a few and change them.
Take your one-a-day vitamins.
I like your crock pot tip. Is that just because he might have less energy to cook later?
Exactly. Something hot will be available to eat later, with no effort. Available, still hot, for a good while.
I am sure he knows to keep the crock pot covered, and not to put anything new in it after filling it, and to use a clean spoon to get the food out, each time. Wipe its handle too.
Also pede, wash your hands a lot, all the time.
Maybe put a new clean towel or pillowcase on your pillow every few hours.
prayers
All HCW, if a dr. says you're all clear and wouldn't have adverse affects, should take chloroquine as a prophylactic against infection. It's unacceptable how the left is trying to demonize this drug. There should be numerous drug manufacturers already pumping this and Z- packs out by the millions here in the U.S. Enough for every citizen of this nation to be administered 5 -10 days worth incase they come down with Wu-Flu. Then life could return to normal, problem solved.
I've been in bed for two weeks with severe ibs, and I've been hesitant to go to the hospital given this mess. I was really starting to worry for a minute, i lost a lot of weight. The worst is just not knowing what exactly is wrong and what will happen. I can empathize.
I swear, sometimes the Lord allows these things specifically to get us to draw near to him and to remember what's important.
I'll remember you in my prayers, have faith and stay strong.
Eat some yogurt? Not a lot. Half a container, but the real kind, no jam, with live cultures.
You can make more yogurt from that, using it as a culture. Perhaps with a yogurt maker from Amazon or from a YouTube video.
Prayers that it’s nothing, but if it’s something, here’s something for you too.
We think our and his three boys had the virus, although they have not been tested. The youngest goes to a school where corona virus was in the news on March 8th (see link below); the other two go to a different school. He got a note explaining that both schools were affected. Our son is prepared ex-paramedic, stocked up and cleaning (telling kids no touching, no face contact) since early Feb when news was still mostly in China. Youngest, then oldest child, then our son, all three experienced headache, high temperature 103 and above since the Match 8th announcement. Our son says he’s never been that sick. Started with headache, then hIgh temperature 103 for two days, freezing, sweating, hands shaking too bad to type (working at home network admin). Third child got it last. Our son thought he was better on the 17th, but back down March 18 and his middle son’s temperature was still at 102 degrees. Four cases in 10 days. He called a hotline and then another number that scheduled a drive through test. The long wait times to get through suggested high volume of calls that could indicate high number of similar concerns.

He called when he was told to follow up for testing but Connecticut was out of tests.
Too bad, if he tested positive, when he tested clear (and was pretty sure of immunity) he would have put his current paramedic license to use and volunteered locally to lend a hand for relief in a hospital and give blood containing antibodies. As it was, he was a sick guy caring for three sick kids. Tough job, that fathering.
What I want to tell you is, most people come out ok. Ok? Have some faith. I’m sorry you’re alone. Keep in touch if you want. We’ll be here praying.
🙏🏻
Did you go and get tested after being exposed?
I called and they said I meet criteria for testing now.
When I called Friday, I just had a cough so they said no testing. I found out I was exposed Saturday morning. I called Employee Health but I think they must have fewer staff on the weekend - the lady I talked to just took a message. If I was really sick I guess I would have tried harder.
Prayers Pede, get some tonic water and zinc medications (zicam is one I think)? Also heavy doses of vit c. Remember for the vast majority of people it is very mild.
can you overdose on Zinc? I think I've already had three lozenges today... ok, this is it - I gotta get off the computer. I am officially freaking out.
but thanks to everyone for your well wishes and good advice - it's nice to know that people care.
Yes you can (doesn't kill you, but can mess with your body's immune function over the long haul). 3 lozenges is probably good for today. :) According to one source milk can help bind the excess zinc if you're worried about it.
I looked it up. I am fine. Max six per day.
Please realize that even if you have it, you're going to be fine. It is nothing like the media makes it out to be. I think I had it in February, and all I did was sleep for 36 hours straight and went back to work.
Don't freak yourself out. It will just get in your head and make you feel like you are more sick than you are. I'm not a doctor, so don't listen to me, but I've been taking half a xannax when I start to overthink this virus bc I have a history of pneumonia. Once I calm down I realize I feel fine. Do deep breathing exercises, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. You will get through this and we are all rooting for you.
Hang in there, pede!
If symptoms become stronger, perhaps look into testing but I am sure you'll be okay. I had a cough like you wouldn't believe back in February, and I am convinced I had Covid-19 but just didn't know about it.
Thank God, I'm okay and I ended up bucking it after like two weeks.
Sending lots of warmth, positive vibes and prayers your way!!! 🙏🙃🇺🇸
Dude, try to stay calm and keep your sanity. Do things you find relaxing and enjoy. And obviously, speak to your doctor asap and insist on the hydroxychloroquine, azrythmicin, zinc treatment. It's being used successfully by doctors around the world, including one in upstate NY who has treated 500 patients and has a 100% cure rate! Even if you have the chinese flu, it is NOT a death sentence in and of itself. Best wishes, pede. Keep us posted and I'll be praying for you.
Get some wild oil of oregano. Drops a few drops under your tongue a few times a day, and put a few drops in a saline rinse and rinse your sinuses daily.
Praying for you tonight!
It could be anything so try not to stress. Hope you are better soon!
I had it over 2 weeks ago.
Expect 3 days of misery, then 7-10 days of coughing like you have a bad chest cold. Look at my comment history for more info.
Step One: Take a deep breath and don't let emotional thinking take you to bad places.
Unless you have and underlying condition (you're over 60, diabetes, asthma, immune compromise) you have a 96% chance of survival (in aggregate, if you're under 50 its close to 99%). If you had cancer and they told you that you had a 96% chance of survival, you'd probably be pretty relieved about that. More than likely, If you've had the flu before that's what it'll be like, just more in your lungs. Get a little Robitussin buzz on, sit next to the humidifier and ride it out watching a show you like. You gon' be fine 🤣
I know a family , all 4 got it, they all recovered 1 had more serious congestion.
Every morning take a big breath and hold it for 10 seconds. If you can't do that go to a doctor.
