That makes no sense. An opening of a military field hospital in the middle of a pandemic, which the President attends, is NOT going to be a "public gathering".
There's no functional reason for him to go, except to act as a figurehead of a ceremony. There's much additional risk going vs not going and no purpose. If I was a doctor, I'd tell him it's unwise. It's a hospital. Required personnel only.
I agree. However, in this video he said "secret service" and not medical personnel. Interestingly, he said almost the exact same thing again a few days later at a briefing. I think it's safe to say that it's strongly assumable that he's telling us that he is at risk of assissination in New York.
