Bush really didn't handle Katrina poorly, rather the corrupt local government of Louisiana did (all democrats... some of which are now in prison).
Came here to say this. I'm no Bush fan by ANY means, but the local government is what really caused the problems. Kinda like Puerto Rico and the aid after Maria in 2017.

Bush didn't handle Katrina horribly. He didn't handle it stellarly either. He was average. The New Orleans mayor and Lousiana governor on the other hand, majorly fucked up their responses. Fake news dragged Bush for political purposes. Katrina was the start of the modern journalist movement to drag down opposition Presidents over natural disasters.
Could you imagine having Biden as president during something like this? That is the secret terrifying thought that the left has but will not say out loud.

Previous presidents always owed all sorts of things to all sorts of people, so they'd be forced to give jobs to not the best people. Then there was all sorts of stealing. Trump has none of these problems.
I stayed 9 days after Katrina hit, in New Orleans. I canoed all over the place. For me, having gone through it, I personally put the blame 1. Kathleen Blanco (La Governor) 2. Mayor Nagin then 3. Bush
