In my line of work I have to keep quiet while working but losing life long friends over nothing but policy differences is pathetic.

I had a close friend of 34 years tell me we can't be friends because I support trump.

Edit: you guys are awesome, !!! Lol gendered language

Appreciated, you are right, I should let the anger go. Wasting energy on it is pointless and I would rather be a source of positive energy in the world. Respect!

You didn't lose a good friend. They did.

I am fortunate that my nuclear family are all conservatives while my grandparents were racist democrats to the bone. I am very close with a cousin but we have gradually been growing distant as he has embraced Marxism. It is driving a wedge between him and his brother and he does not even realise it. I am hoping someday he wakes up from his delusion but I fear that college brainwashed him so thoroughly and preyed upon aspects of his good nature that he now feels that to be anything but Marxist would be immoral. In the meantime, as long as he is willing to interact with me, I am willing to be there.

The same kinds of people who will try to terminate your career over politics.

It's probably not over. Things like this work out between friends much of the time.

These people are conditioned into prioritising their hatred for Trump above everything else.

Occasionally they'll have a moment of clarity, they'll realise that the people they now call friends are all filled with this same hatred and it dictates every aspect of their lives.

Make sure you don't push them away if they're looking for a way out of that nightmare.

I've lost a friend or two over it. I've also worked at an ivy league, where I had to completely hide my political beliefs while the crazy communists run around screaming about how much they "hate the midwest" and "impeach drumpfh"

My entire family hates Trump, immediate and extended. There's just no way I would let politics come between my family, I mostly keep my mouth shut because for one I'm confident in my worldview, and also my family is not malicious just deceived.

I did yell at my mom the other day in a moment of weakness when she was parroting some msn bs but I'm only human.

Someone who was never a friend.
