You make a good case. But just before Sessions went to sleep he put Trump hater Rosenstein in charge of the DOJ. That was a very treacherous and momentous move.
Always have been a critic of Sessions; and President Trump admits it was his worst decision of his FIRST term. But, Rosenstein was the default (basically). It was engineered to be that way--from the start Rosenstein was in on forcing Sessions to recuse, which set up him to be in charge of the DOJ as it related to the Russia Hoax from the time of recusal until Rosenstein left.
Trump's story is that Sessions' begged him to appoint Rosenstein as the Deputy AG. Trump said he knew nothing about Rosenstein but thought Sessions should have the deputy of his choice.
Right... confirms why Sessions was his worst decision. Not just the choice to remove himself, but recommended a vile swamp creature in Rosenstein.
