Seems to be a lot of folks in this thread with their jaw in the floor over the 100,000 number. I would encourage you to look up the number of deaths during a bad flu season in the US, and then understand that COVID-19 is statistically twice as contagious.

Stop letting the media fear monger you. Modeling is a tool, not our predetermined reality.

The base line of a flu season is about 50,000 in 4 months

So they are just guessing 2X that

Its not exactly fair to call it a guess.

We're talking about a novel virus here. We have past pandemics and data to compare, which is fed into the modeling. The model spits out a scenario, we apply a combative strategy, and bingo: hopefully <100,000 deaths result.
