Ripping off another operating system and licensing to IBM as PC-Dos.
Prior to MS-Dos was an operating system named CPM.
Most contend that MS-Dos was a rip off of CPM. e.g. I believe the prompts were basically the same, except the c drive in MS-dos was for hard disc drives and the floppies were a or b. In CPM the hard disc was A, and floppies the other.
Their product got better w/ Windows NT. But we still had a routine to reboot the NT servers every night. All Microsoft products needed the occassional reboot.
That said we built a Free BSD mail server on an old pentium 166 (way back) and after start up it ran like 6 consecutive months before the first reboot.
Windows has always been quirky and a resource hog. For some reason does not play nice w/ hp printers on network or in Windows 10 case turbo tax.
BTW, if you run TurboTax make sure you modify it to run as adminstrator!
Free BSD is fast as hell but still a pain in the ass as a normal desktop. PFsense on the other hand is amazing. Have used Linus Distros for 20 yrs from Mandrake, Arch Linux, Lubuntu, PCLinux OS, and now currently MX Linux. Either way, every single one of these runs 10x as fast as any Microsoft POS that is in existence.
