This happened here in Oregon a few years ago; my community calls it the “Snowpocalypse”. No power for almost 2 weeks, and snow made it impossible to travel.

We turned a rec center into a warming station for the elderly and made large batches of soup.A lot of board games appeared out of thin air and things turned out okay.

We’ll get through this. :)

Serious answer, read a book.

It's like camping, but you still have a comfortable bed. Here in hurricane country it happens all the time. The last thing you need to worry about is not having access to the fake news for a while.

Seriously? My wife & I would read, work on the yard, paint the kitchen, go on more walks (there's surprisingly few people doing that), put new siding on the garage, design a water-saving landscape for our front yard & start tearing it up, paint the house, build a new shed, and.... have a lot of fun when the kids aren't looking!

Sorry the question was not how you would handle your time, it was how you would get your news and understand what is going on.. how would the public react to being blind.. like flying in a plane with no windows.. there is a psychological element to not knowing added with being inside that will enhance the feeling of claustrophobia..

When things are so dynamic about closing of stores, and possible areas.. not having information could be deadly if you don't know the supermarkets are now closed etc..

I think sometimes we become a little too obsessed with "news'. It's weird because we're all aware that the news is full of lies, exaggerations, sensationalism, and propaganda, but we still keep coming back. Every once in a while I deliberately shut it all off and I honestly feel better after a few days of not being in a state of anxiety or anger over a bunch of stuff that frankly doesn't actually affect my life that much.

As far as critical information goes, that really depends on how far away you are from everything else. For the most part, if I don't have power than neither does the grocery store, so it's going to be closed. I don't think that's as deadly as it may sound, though.

Every time I've seen similar situations happen, there's a lot more of neighbors pulling together and helping each other out than society falling apart and descending into chaos.

We lost power for 12 hours today in GA. Sucked. My kid's 16th birthday.....on lock down, power out, internet out. I gave my husband a pity hummer around 11:30 cuz I could see shit was getting him down. We do what we have to, amirite? (LMAO for getting down voted for a pity hummer......faggot. Every husband in America reading this is saying.... "What a wife!!!!!!")

Somewhere in a box of old stuff in my garage is a depression era letter my grandmother’s teenage brother had written to the family about how he had walked for days looking for work, but had no luck finding it. He described how he had worn holes into the soles of his shoes from days of walking.

People would probably write letters to each other...

We have a radio, so there would be some access to what we call news. At least there would be some indication that there's still a world out there. Since I live in a small town, the best way to find out what's going on in our area is to take a little stroll downtown, talking to everyone you encounter along the way. The worst part would be not being able to call and talk to family members who live in other areas...and wondering if they were okay.
