The dead giveaway that this is complete bullshit is the mention of "transmission tower" ... as if television in this country hasn't been all cable or satellite ever since they decommissioned VHF and UHF.
I think the number of people still using aerial antennas is like sub 1% and even then most of them only watch like one or two local news channels.
But why wouldn't you pay for satellite? Or satellite Internet? It's not particularly fast on the upload side but it definitely has plenty of download bandwidth for Netflix etc.
If it's an economic issue then yeah, TV is free, albeit in a "paid for by John Q Taxpayer" kind of way. Also, it's possible to be so rural that you can't even get a TV signal so then it horseshoes back to satellite being the only option.
IIRC the lower VHF bands were reprovisioned for the new HD channels, which could fit more subchannels in the same frequency range because digital doesn't bleed into neighboring channels like analog. The higher UHF bands were resold to become cellular network bands.
You are correct it's still there to some degree but I still would be shocked to discover it had more than fraction of the penetration of cable and satellite. I would check but I frankly don't know what industry group would even publish such statistics.
I had the opportunity to spend a day tracking mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in western Uganda. Amazing experience. The gorillas are wild, although the groups that allow humans to approach are acclimated you human presence.
No gorilla fights. However a blackback male gorilla did approach our group (we are supposed to maintain a substantial distance but if the gorillas approach you, you are supposed to freeze and not meet their eyes). He ended up giving a playful shove to one member of our party who went flying into the brush. The gorilla chuffed a laugh and continued on his way. Damn funny video.
I can't believe morons thought this was true.
Of course they did.
But seriously though, where's our Gorilla channel?
It's right here silly!: https://youtu.be/HF90w_12MoA

It's "G Chan".
People actually believed this?

It’s cute that this story has managed to stick around since dubya’s first term.
I remember that Pluto.tv had it for a while! Bring it back, Pluto!
It was the first psy-op to expose leakers. 4d chess motherfuckers.
Yeah, with Big Mike in the house, he already had the premium package.
It's a group effort, my friend!
Me: "Hey! Hey, I've seen this one. This is a classic!"
Libs: "What do you mean you've seen this? Its brand new."
Me: "Yeah, well, I saw it during... the... Bush administration..."
I was in tears laughing when I found out leftists believed this.

This is sooooo much more believable than the pee-doc...
I’ve cut the cable and gone completely android box TV. I get the gorilla channel all the time. KAG = Keep American Gorillachannel.
I don’t give a damn about the context of why this was written, but the author should be given a Pulitzer.
Yes we do... https://twitter.com/plutotv/status/950482058102521856?lang=en

And everybody laughed at me for keeping those AOL CDs for 25 years! WELL WHOS LAUGHING NOW, HUH?!?! HA HA HA HA HA
TV is still broadcast, with more channels available (as subchannels of a broadcaster) since they went to digital. They didn't decommission it.

I think there's a fair number of cable cutters out there that have the netflix / hulu / antenna bundle
Kek.... That's the dead giveaway, huh?....
Fun fact-- on the rare occasion gorillas fight in the wild, both gorillas usually die.

Holy shit this is hilarious. What is this from?
Not even mad, this is hilarious.
Where / how did this story originate?
Disappointed? I always rock Harambe-Vision on my television. You guys aren't?
The Gorilla Channel disappeared far too quickly.
Must have been too soon after Harambe.
Where was this written?
Hastily erected transmission tower on the south lawn.
So nobody saw this happen and they still believed it?
