Old couple behind me at the grocer said this exact same thing. That this is clearly capitalism failing. I don’t think they realize this is just people getting a taste of what socialism would be like.
Is this some kind of new NPC programming talking point? "We stopped capitalism from happening to save it from a virus. See! Capitalism doesn't work. It failed." So dumb!
Based on how many people I’ve heard use similar stock phrases, I think it is. I think their main argument is that if work and wages were all centrally controlled, we wouldn’t have to worry about anybody being out of work because it’d all be government controlled. I don’t think they realize that, if there is no value being produced, there is no money to give people, and the amount of value being produced under socialism is inherently going to be far inferior to the amount of value being produced by capitalism, is that’s the inherent guiding force to capitalism—doing things that lead to more capital.
Hell, capitalism is the most robust economic system in existence. Most of the premise of capitalism is decentralizing as much as we possibly can, putting it in the hands of whoever can make the most of it as determined by people being willing to pay for it of their own accord. That’s the polar opposite of fragility, which is the term people are throwing around it seems to criticize capitalism. “Look at how fragile it is! Once you stop paying people to work, there is no work being done!” I don’t think they realize how stupid of a statement that is.

This 100%. They think somehow the gov can pay for everything. They haven't figured out that the gov doesn't pay a damn thing. You pay. Everyone pays. Except the gov. The gov collects. Get it you knothead socialists? The gov COLLECTS.
Reminds me of people on $1k a month health insurance plans to get out of a $50 copay. You’re just paying the copay in advance at that point over a lesser plan.
Or when people complain when some companies get relative tax brakes. They’ll say by percentage they pay less than a normal person. They still pay millions of dollars though. That’s millions of dollars more than a normal person would ever pay.
