Watch the movie Falling Down with Michael Douglas.
Government deciding who is 'essential personnel' is parallel to the so-called "economically viable" white shirt and ties walking around like drones in an American wasteland. People are sitting at home unemployed because the government tells them and society is acquiescent. This day and age in America, it is easy to acquiesce because many of us live in excess and the pandemic crisis is temporary, so naturally people believe that the measures we take against the pandemic must also be temporary. The measures taken are only temporary if People maintain a perspective that is sober and not overwhelmed by fear.
I believe coronavirus is an act of nature and it truly is a serious situation, however in politics, no crisis will go to waste. We are likely witnessing a flair-up of the Cold War. A new lever to control people en masse has been discovered. Globally, governments are witnessing the instability such an event is causing, political leaders must be careful in the manner that they address this because it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. People are much more docile when the government is there to tell them that they can fix it and make it all go away. People forfeit their personal agency and civil liberties because they are fearful. People are looking to the government to quiet their anxieties, this is not a healthy, wise, or rational perspective. People need to confront their anxieties and take personal ownership of their part in it.
This means that you as an American, with all the rights afforded to you by the Constitution, are aware that you are a vector/host of a deadly disease that is highly transmissible, and if you transmit it to another Person, you are also indirectly transmitting it to any Person that they transmit it to, exponentially. As an American you are aware that if you transmit this disease you are responsible for the additional stress it will load on Our healthcare system. You as an American are aware and accept the responsibility you have because the government is You. It is the summation of all of us and our civil rights and liberties.
Look at the graph, where it says "No intervention." I'm not pointing this out to criticize the graph, it's as true as a prediction model can be given the assumptions made to create it. However, we should be wary of people that attempt to present this as a false dichotomy where either the People choose not to act or they choose the government to act for them. Fearful and irrational people will take "No Intervention" to mean "No Government Intervention." This is not a rational perspective of the crisis. This is paradoxical to American principles because we are a government of the People, by the People, and for the People. This crisis doesn't rest on one persons shoulders, it is on all of our shoulders. The 'government' is People with rights and civil liberties protecting the rights and civil liberties of People. Our constitutional rights are inalienable and precede government, meaning they have existed before the birth of the Constitution itself. Accept your personal responsibility to this crisis and make good and responsible choices and we will make it out the other side of this crisis as strong as we ever have been.
That is more threatening to life than the virus. It has no immediate benefit to public health, if anything confining people to prison will make transmission worse. It also does very little at preventing poor decisions that can't dissuaded through other means like communication (daily coronavirus task force briefing)

Try exercising your constitutional rights. You'll find yourself in prison pretty quick.
