So far all of Trump's solutions are less government.

So what's your alternative plan to stop a life killing depression that could be worse than the great depression of the 1930s?

8
Crimson_Identity 8 points ago +8 / -0

You both have valid points that I agree with. Its a hard time for true fiscal conservatives.

0
letrain 0 points ago +1 / -1

It has stupid things the democrats wanted. That's the problem... Direct checks to people being told to start home was the only option. Loans was the only options. It is my understanding 2t is the budget of available money, not what had been spent. It may not be that much. Only other option is less regulation and less taxes.

End the lockdowns and they'll be saved

50
DarkMemeDuck 50 points ago +65 / -15

Exactly. These lockdowns need to end. Why the hell he came out and said we have to keep everything shut until the end of April is beyond me. This shit needs to be over yesterday.

38
kag-2020- 38 points ago +41 / -3

The Governor's are in open rebellion against the President. The only reason he shut things down was to stay ahead of the inevitable. This ending this year would be a miracle. These people are power hungry and they gain more every second this lasts

17
Toughsky_Shitsky 17 points ago +19 / -2

Starving people generally end lockdowns like the one we are in now .. and it is never pretty.

Open our country for business or tax laws won't mean jack shit.

7

He just gave the governors rope to hang themselves and they gleefully did.

Don't blame Trump for the shutdowns.

Blame your governor.

Unless something drastic changes, lockdowns are likely to continue until the summer. So-called social distancing will probably be here to stay on a long-term basis. Until our bodies have gotten used to this thing, and have developed a more effective defense against it. That could take years. The ramifications of what is happening now will still be unfolding long after Trump leaves office.

Cyer6 30 points ago +30 / -0

Rush mentioned a "study" yesterday about California. Over 40 million people, thousands of homeless and some areas with dense population centers yet they've only had around 140 deaths from CV related illnesses?? Some doctors and disease specialists speculate it may be due to CA having already been exposed to the virus and have thus developed a herd immunity. Either way, something isn't adding up out there and if herd immunity is a factor, it supports the argument that maybe the entire country might be better off letting the virus work its way through the healthy population and quarantine the "at-risk" popluation for a few months.

10
whocaresguy420 10 points ago +10 / -0

wonder if the heat in CA is helping too

5
Cyer6 5 points ago +5 / -0

Maybe, but it's been way hotter out here in TX and we have quite a few more cases.

7
NocturnalPatrol 7 points ago +7 / -0

entire country might be better off letting the virus work its way through the healthy population and quarantine the "at-risk" popluation for a few months

That's what we should have been doing from the start. Bill Whittle talked about this when it was still just heating up.

-1
Workhorse101 -1 points ago +2 / -3

The doctors talked about that at yesterday's presser. That would lead to many more deaths with this virus. Looking at millions instead of a 100,000 to 200,000 which is still just an estimate worst case scenario.

4
NocturnalPatrol 4 points ago +5 / -1

And keeping the economy shut down until summer, and practicing social distancing until the fall - of next year - will without question lead to total economic ruin.

We're already going to have to rebuild all the progress we made over the last three years. If this goes on for month after month after month, we're going to have to rebuild what had been built up over the last 244 years.

We're far past the point where, even if some miracle made the virus completely disappear off the face of the earth, we can just resume our lives as if nothing happened. Worst case economic scenarios are unfolding.

5
residue69 5 points ago +5 / -0

I hope the medical information of people that died, especially those that succumbed suddenly, is being collected and analyzed.

I want to know if there is anything to race and ACE2 receptor density and some blood types being more resistant than others.

I'm afraid the data will be corrupted by "race is a social construct" wokeness and a desire to classify as many deaths as possible to the virus.

3
Cyer6 3 points ago +3 / -0

The reason for the wide-spread immunity theory is that CA has major shipping ports from Asia along with international airports that go directly to and from Asia. NY and the east coast doesn't get the flow of Asian travel and shipping like CA does. They just don't know yet. But what we do know is that 140 deaths out of 40 million with the virus first being introduced to the US well over 2.5 months ago, they should be seeing the same kind of medical crisis that NY is seeing but they're not.

2
Nellie_the_Beaut 2 points ago +2 / -0

Also, Washington State was reportedly GROUND ZERO with the first cases, and first deaths from covid 19. That was 6 weeks ago. Where’s the pandemic warzone disaster there that we were all told to brace for? We were told Washington would be the example and test case for the country. Crickets, nothing even coming out of Seattle- a major congested city and international port. The press is not covering Washington at all because it doesn’t fit their apocalyptic scenario narrative.

Haha you think once the lockdown ends bars and restaurants are gonna come back? People are our business, and at least half the country is froggtened of a cold. You think people are gonna go out and have someone prepare your food? Thats over. The margins are too tight. If 10 pct of those who used to eat out regularly stop, its all over. Have fun at taco bell you fucking fascists.

Chinese food? In America?? Done. Never again.

Could you please explain how JIT manufacturing is to blame? I'm not being antagonistic - I looked it up and am trying to understand. Is it about the masks and ventilators, or is it because these companies have a business model that can't handle economic crisis? Is so, why is that the case?

2
Tallsie 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like to think of it using the analogy of a highway. People in the past would leave plenty of space between them and the individual in front of them on the road, say 2 car lengths while traveling 35 mph. Technology improved, allowing us to move faster and faster, now we are all going 70 mph, 2 car lengths from each other. More dangerous than it use to be, but still some buffer space. Economists figured out they could fit 2 more cars on the road for ever car by putting them into that 2 car length space between each car. You can think of JIT as a way to fit more economic activity inside an area that in the past served as a safety zone (think large warehouse and having extra raw materials in case of an economic event or keeping cash on hand in a safe spot).

Well, the Coronavirus tree just fell on the road and everyone who was literal millimeters from each others bumpers just slammed into each other, creating a 330 million car pileup.

Chinese food was invented in America. You do know this?

5

Prohibition does not equal pestilence.

Eating out wasnt common until the last 30 or 40 years.

Chinese food, in america, is dead and buried. Old news. Not unless it comes in fucking pizza boxes and is outwardly owned and operated by a fat ginger will i eat china food ever again. That shit always tastes the same because it all, comes from the same supplier.

21

7
NancyPeloci 7 points ago +8 / -1

They should file for unemployment which has been increased, carefully spend the stimulus money that is coming, which is in addition to the unemployment and look for other grants and opportunities such as: https://rerf.us/ . It's actually not as complicated as you seem to want it to be. I've got facebook and instagram, if I wanted to hear people bitching and complaining, I'd go there. Again, you're not adding anything constructive to the conversation.

3
snuggs316 3 points ago +3 / -0

unfortunately, i think a lot of folks are going to learn some very hard financial lessons in this....but they are not bad lessons. such as taking a very careful look at how you spend your money, what you don't really need and what you spend on bs stuff like daily caramel soy macchiatos. do you keep going back to *$ post- wu wu 'flu, or do you buy a lil espresso machine and make them at home for a fraction of the cost? do i really have to drive a lexus or should i get a hyundai and bank the money?

i keep seeing the stat that most americans have less than $400.00 savings. i bet that changes.

gotta have a "stash" for emergencies, and a stash costs money, but can be built over time.

i hope these college kids that are majoring in urdu, post-modern critical basket weaving and the theatrics of victimhood are paying attention to the jobs that are in high demand and still on-going, despite the crisis. i also hope we end the whole snobbism thing re: white vs blue collar. both are essential. if you've got toilet paper, thank the truckers and the scientists that made it so soft.

yep. many of the restaurants do take out on the side now but their main business model is in-person dining. They can't keep going hoping people will keep ordering takeout or delivery, especially now that so many people are worried about their own jobs and immediate future that they are opting to make their own food at home and not spend on outside food.

1

Currently 50% of a business related meal is deductible as an expense. If he changes it to 100% deductible then more business people will eat out and spend their money in a very hard hit industry. The industry will rebound faster and many a girlfriend and wife will suddenly become Al Green from ACB Corp 😂. This is a winning idea

0
MAGA_PIPEMAKER_420 0 points ago +1 / -1

Imagine you're a businessman meeting with a client to discuss some deal over lunch, and you want to pay for the meal in hopes of it influencing the outcome of the deal.

Years ago, you would have been able to write off the meal cost as a business expense, but they did away with that deduction some years ago.

Alternatively, you want to treat your employees to a meal for whatever reason. This would have been a write-off for a business back in the day.

President Trump wants businesses to be able to have these write-offs again.

0
xopi 0 points ago +1 / -1

If there's one thing I've learned in business is, if a company is taking you out to lunch, you are about to get swindled really soon. The nicer the place they take you, the more you're going to get swindled.

Remember, if they invite you out to eat, you're the one paying for it.

2
MAGA_PIPEMAKER_420 2 points ago +3 / -1

Businesses used to be able to write off meal/entertainment expenses on their taxes. Think of a salesman treating a potential buyer to a dinner, or a boss buying dinner for everyone in the office after a record-setting quarter. Buying baseball tickets for the top seller on the team.

These used to be tax-deductable, and POTUS wants that to be the case again.

Businesses will be incentivized to patronize restaurants and restaurants will benefit from the increased business.

I hate to be the buzzkill, but this provision was repealed in the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, which he promoted heavily and signed with great enthusiasm. Perhaps he was unaware of it, or perhaps it seemed like a good idea at the time, or perhaps he didn't like it, but went along with it just to get the larger package through. Regardless, the repeal of this deduction was a recent thing.

That said, given the circumstances, it's probably a good idea to bring it back.

God I remember when we used to have that deductibility, we were rolling with our restaurant in the mid-'80s with our customers, especially during the Holidays.
