But why is there such a range? Don't they know how many died of the flu? Even within a 100% margin of error? Apparently not.

The answer is simple and well known. The wide range is due to the vast medical complications that are difficult to pinpoint that would contribute to the cause of death. However, they are doing just the opposite in this current situation and using every opportunity they can to report something as a COVID-19 death.

24,000-62,000 is a pretty wide margin though.
