we should not be forcing cruise ships with sick on board to stay at sea. we should be allowing them to dock and rendering aid. We are still the United States, and we should be doing the right thing when we can.
We understand communicable disease. we can mitigate risk to the community. I bet that rainbow chaser Mayor of LA would leap at the chance to show "what being an Angeleno" is all about.
All I can say about this is that it is consistent with Trump's America First principle.
It doesn't feel good to turn someone in need away...not if you're a good person, and it seems you are.
Practical decision making, and leadership, however will sometimes require you to make hard decisions. For example, open borders and free healthcare will result in no healthcare for anyone.
Trump has accepted his charge to protect the citizens of the USA. He holds it dear. He did offer to patriate the business to America so that legally, the costs of treatment would be covered by the recently passed stimulus. The company declined due to higher taxes they would pay.
The whole thing is ugly, and the people on the ship aren't at fault. No one wants to take the costs or the added burden of patients at this time. Including Florida's Governor.
Not our proudest hour, but it shows how desperate people seem to fear the situation may become.
In general i agree with you . I believe in strong quarantine. I think NYC should be under quarantine now.
But the LA county director of Public health has been amazing. I think she could plan for this and coordinate offering assistance while minimizing risk to the community
Also, part of America first is preserving our preeminence. This is how you do that.
