True. A sad side-issue: I have met many bright Chinese students in Beijing who could speak wonderful English, but who somehow didn't score "high enough" on their exams to win a seat in a University, and were forever stuck in a nothing job, pushing subway tickets out a booth window, etc. Wrong family, too bad.
