Which space was originally science denier?

I saw this posted and immediately thought it fit better with Fake News than "science denial". The average person isn't bringing in fake experts, quote mining or doing their own randomness evaluations.

But fake news outlets certainly are. Most of them are denying actual science as well.

It went over his head, but cut him some slack we are all on the frontlines with insane liberals.

Cherry picking also applies to experts. Every journalist has a contact list that's rather large of people they can call that sound important or like an authority.

They call who they think will say what they want said and not quote those who didn't say what they wanted in print.

It might fall under quote mining or magnified minority.

Minor issue: "Moving Goalposts" actually belongs under "Logical Fallacies".

I can see lots of "You are here" responses with this...

"Hi, lefty. You've been duped. You are here. Here are facts"

15
Liberty4All 15 points ago +15 / -0

What does "blowfish" mean in this context?

13
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 13 points ago +13 / -0

Kamala Harris.

Here is a definition that explains it:

There is a special class of red herring – a specific technique of denial often employed to distract people from important scientific findings. To maintain the fish metaphor, I characterize this as the blowfish fallacy.

This is the technique of laser-focusing on an inconsequential methodological aspect of scientific research, blowing it out of proportion in order to distract from the bigger picture. If you persuade people to focus hard enough on specific details, they can miss the gorilla in the room."

Here is the link to the quote (Warning: link is to a climate change propaganda site)

12
AslanFan 12 points ago +12 / -0

I like it....So, demanding clinical trials during wartime or pandemic for a known and widely used drug is a blowfish.

7
muslimporn 7 points ago +7 / -0

That's also related to standards fallacies. The double standard almost always results but more specifically just inappropriate standards. Disproportionate, too low, too high, etc.

Identifying a standard as inappropriate by double standard is known as whataboutism in the modern tongue.

Inappropriate standards can also be sometimes identified as they stand alone without comparison. For example if its impossible to reach the standard being imposed.

nothingberg 2 points ago +2 / -0

I stopped reading at Kamala Harris

Because I know she likes to blow fish

"This is the technique of laser-focusing on an inconsequential methodological aspect of scientific research, blowing it out of proportion in order to distract from the bigger picture."

Like when the media takes half a trump quote out of context and tries to nail him to the wall with it.

Blowing something small (and maybe not accurate) out of proportion.

3
muslimporn 3 points ago +3 / -0

Excerpts.

7
basedtexapede 7 points ago +7 / -0

I was thinking the same thing, though "red herring" is clear enough. Maybe it means that you take a "red herring" and "blow" it out of proportion?

5
CoreyAnder 5 points ago +5 / -0

Just looked it up - its focusing on a small detail and blowing it up out of proportion compared to the big picture. To me the number of Covid deaths seem to be the blowfish here, which isn't that much if you compare them to bad flu seasons. But the media acts like this is unprecedented. To be fair, if we have 200k that will be worse than a bad flu season. I highly doubt we will. This is why this needs to end and people need to get back to work.

Here's more:

Possible examples?:

  • PlannedParenthood "To justify its half billion dollars in taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood downplays abortion -falsely claiming that it only makes up three percent of its business -and instead plays up its cancer screenings and 'women’s health care.'"

  • Claiming Global Cooling/Global Warming/Climate Change/Climate Crisis/whatever other rebranding they've made up is "settled science" or that there is a "scientific consensus" with 93-97% of scientists agreeing that's it's a man made & going to kill the planet.

  • That hormone chemicals and gender reassignment surgery are necessary for the health of someone who is/believes they are a transgender, because of the emotional turmoil they may experience before "treatment"; when in reality... From nih.gov:"Sex-reassigned persons also had an increased risk for suicide attempts (aHR 4.9; 95% CI 2.9–8.5) and psychiatric inpatient care (aHR 2.8; 95% CI 2.0–3.9)."

  • Re terrorism: hashtag "NotAll", data sets starting from 9/12/2001, & this entire BS site

Yes! Mods could add the infographic to the sidebar and create new flairs for each category, so whenever anyone posts a link to a fake news article, they can assign it the most appropriate flair. Within a month or two, we'll all be experts on the techniques they're using.

ABC Nightly News is absolutely cherry picking right now. They never show people with mild symptoms or that have recovered with no issues, just the people that recovered with complications. They also have not mentioned anything about hydroxychloroquine last night, nor did they mention the number that recovered. Its doom and gloom for 27 minutes, then a heart warming story the last 3. They are the reason that depression is so high in our nation, that and TDS.

Awesome! Now someone make an educational class using real life fake news and apply these scenarios to help to teach our children when to recognize fake news. This might actually be a fun exercise. I think my oldest son would probably love to practice such an experiment for homework! If I get something put together I'll share and re-link back to this post.

These fallacies are implemented so blatantly by the media 24/7. Throw in the fact that wikipedia now allows MSM sources as factual sources and you'll start to see why clown world is able to persist so heavily in our daily lives.

Anonymous “sources” needs to be on there. It could be an entirely separate category with how many ways the lying media makes sources up.
