It's real but its also really exaggerated for the vast bulk of the country.

My wife is at work managing what was Cardiac-ICU right now (in Oregon) that has converted into a normal ICU so the standard one can become a COVID-ICU. They are busy (with unhealthy old people, like a normal bad flu season) and somewhat rationing PPE but overall everything is alright.

Yes, there are some very limited number of hospitals in hotspots where there is trouble but the vast overwhelming bulk of hospitals across the country are doing just fine.
