People are just touchy about non-positive/mainstream stuff. It's annoying but understandable.

Power grids?

We also don't have many people in positions of power who truly understand tyranny/willing etc. This makes avoiding foreign meddling, re-establishing effective government and avoiding economic disasters basically impossible. The US is a huge global beast. Anybody who thinks they can just "boogaloo," ground-up, without local and nationwide government assets, and keep it going like clockwork is frankly an idiot.
