Welcome to California. $1,000 fine for surfing or being on the beach (helicopters are patrolling the beaches all day long) and $400 fine for not social distancing at grocery stores 6 feet... yeah, it feels like a police state already.

“Feels like a police state already.”

Is.

Our state's emergency team is having to BEG people to stop calling 911 to report people standing too close to them.

I live in a red state, deep red county.

Seriously, what the fuck? Sure in a shit hole full of privileged liberal idiots I could expect that pearl clutching and tattle tale commie behavior, but in my state?

Your feelings don't matter to the mad, enabling zealots who demand that police state in a scam to sell you "safety".

It only "seems" bad, slave. Crouch down and lick the government hand that controls your life.

The compliant slaves who voted Trump will peer pressure you into a soma coma. Welcome to their Brave New World.

Fairweather patriots who just rode the Trump prosperity better get ready for Valley Forge.

This movement is bigger and older than you, me, or the Donald himself.

LIBERTY OR DEATH

Now the ocean is off limits? Wtf

23
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 23 points ago +23 / -0

Yep, which makes absolutely no sense. Surfing is not going to spread the virus. This is a Democrat power trip and nothing more.

highenergywinning 9 points ago +9 / -0

This is really frightening

Boogaloo. Now.

3
myswedishfriend 3 points ago +3 / -0

90% of what has closed isn't going to spread the virus.

No matter what happens, the government is in a position where they can justify everything by saying "but it would have been even worse if we didn't."

They’ve closed off all waterways in SC and MS... oceans, reservoirs, beaches, etc

I mutually pledge to you patriots my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor.

You milquetoast enablers only dig your own grave.

America will not fall with your thumb-sucking, liberty-destroying, unconstitutional, lawless panic. The heirs of this country never infringe on liberty. Period.

Leftists will NEVER relinquish what you give them, fools!

They resist us. Resist them!

We will never be a socialist country!

You already live under a police state. You have since the Patriot Act. Good virtue signaling though.

you know I am disappointed! I am a Canadian and have a lot of American Conservatives that I am friends with. I am the only person saying we need to make sure we hold on to our liberties and not to lose our freedoms, the way that we did with the Patriot Act. Every single conservative friend I have disagrees with me on this, saying government needs to take full control and pretty much strip the first amendment until this is done. So disappointed in my conservative friends

People gave their freedom up for nothing. The virus will be out there until there is a vaccine. At any point the government can take away your rights claiming they are protecting people from the virus.

Disease spread is such a bitch to deal with lawfully. There is some very real constitutional issues that have to be addressed with this but I urge people to take it to the courts and to not act brashly.

Let people assemble freely = high transmission rate of a deadly disease. There's no easy answers on this one folks.

15
Independenceforever 15 points ago +16 / -1

The easy answer is "from my cold dead hands."

5
lanre 5 points ago +5 / -0

If you let people walk around and spread it, nothing stops those that want to be cautious from staying at home. I've stayed at home for weeks already because I thought this was more serious than most people. It didn't take a police officer to throw me in jail to do it either.

Getting tired of all these people complaining about a police state that is a shell of what it was under bath house Barry, listen to Trump, listen to your governors, you'll know when someones gone too far and we are nowhere near that.

Yea but that was before we were locked down and threatened to be fined for being in public. That is the police state. Before were weren't literally in a lock down so it was hyperbole.

9
UpTrump 9 points ago +10 / -1

Being fined/arrested for leaving your home is 100% a police state

3
lanre 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah man, you're right. I'm so glad Trump got rid of the FISA court, the Patriot Act, and cleaned up the FBI and DoJ. Without that we would've kept marching towards tyranny.

-19
SD_Pede -19 points ago +8 / -27

This shit is so stupid.

It's like conservative virtue signaling.

What's the bitch going to do? Barricade himself in his house? lol Then he would be in lockdown.

Or maybe he'll stroll down the street and tell the cops to fuck off. Right.

BTW, governor's orders are 100% Constitutional. Emergency powers authorize them to protect their citizens.

28
STEVE_HUFFMANS_BULL 28 points ago +31 / -3

governor's orders are 100% Constitutional

Wrong. The first amendment explicitly guarantees “right of the people peaceably to assemble.” It also says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” which means preventing churches (or synagogues or whatever) from peacefully worshipping together - for literally any reason - is unconstitutional, UNLESS:

Did you find a secret clause that says that’s all void if people get sick?

13
Morgoth 13 points ago +15 / -2

Emergency powers are taken from the 10th Amendment, which gives government certain powers not defined in The Constitution, but also has to fall within The Constitution's boundaries.

Yes Emergency Powers have been used for over a Century, but to say it's strictly Constitutional I don't believe is true.

As well, the severity of the emergency is what is important here. If the government was to say, declare all people who refuse to give over their guns as terrorists and invoke emergency powers to cleanse the nation of them, is that constitutional?

8
DarkestMatt 8 points ago +9 / -1

The government does not have rights and none are given to it by the constitution. Only individuals can have rights. Please don't say anti freedom shit like 'the government has xyz right'.

1
Morgoth 1 point ago +1 / -0

Okay I'll change it to power.

The government is granted certain powers, no?

10
Independenceforever 10 points ago +12 / -2

Shall not be infringed.

Expect Civil War then. You are no American, Benedict Arnold.

Dude, if Lincoln couldn't suspend habeas corpus in the middle of the civil war, I think locking people in their homes is probably a bridge too far. I guess we'll all have to wait, locked in our homes for 3 years though until the court battle plays out. Oops, courts are closed too. Shucks.
