It's exactly what you say. Non-emergency procedures are no longer being performed + covid cases haven't overwhelmed. Dallas hospitals for example are firing nurses and workers because they have no cases to work on and covid cases haven't spiked yet. If you go to a hospital in Detroit and NYC, though, you'll see the opposite of empty.

I think we're at that point now. CA's virus curve has leveled off. It never came close to what they were anticipating. Our most populated state, 40 million people, and they've only had around 250 CV related deaths?? CA doesn't have the population density that NYC has, but they have a massive homeless problem. People are still in contact with one another in many other ways and have to travel further to get to their jobs. It should've spread all over the state but it never did. We need to take a closer look at CA and see what's happening and not just NYC.

If this was week 1 of this shit where we had no idea what was going to happen after the initial hit fine, but at this point I think it's safe to assume we're not going to see anywhere near the initial numbers they predicted and hospitals will not be overloaded, and the US military has the ability to mobilize extremely fast if things do get overwhelming and build a field hospital in a few days. A former CoWorker in Louisiana said the rural hospital she works in only has one patient...in the entire hospital.
Yesterday I drove by a hospital in one of the 'hotspot' states and the parking lot was mainly empty.
