Nobody is talking about the doctor shortage because the AMA is a powerful lobby and their number 1 focus for 50 years has been limiting the number of spots in medical schools to limit the number of doctors and keep doctor salaries high.
Nobody wants to piss off doctors right now, but this crisis (and really the entire healthcare cost crisis) is a direct result of the AMA lobbying hard to ensure supply of doctors is kept artificially low. Its the same shit OPEC does with oil. Cut supply to ensure high prices.
