"Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly said Crozier was removed from his post because he sent the letter over "non-secure unclassified email" to a "broad array of people" rather than up the chain of command."
There is a long and honored tradition in our US military of commanders being fired due to the indifference and incompetence of their superiors. It's a badge of honor.
From this article, it sounds like his immediate supervisor, the strike force commander, is the first level of the problem.
Also, early reports say he copied a lot of people on an email. Now, that has changed to say that he sent the email unsecured. I wonder how that portion of the story will continue to evolve?
There's ALWAYS viruses on a ship. And some bacterial infections, funguses, not a small number of STDs, and a handful of pregnancies. The last cruise I was on we had a pretty nasty cowpox going around due to improper hygiene following smallpox injections.
That is NEVER an excuse to endanger the crew of the ship by making public, intentionally OR accidentally, any potential weaknesses the ship may temporarily be experiencing, the knowledge of which could become beneficial to the enemy.
This was more than just pissing off his superiors. He literally endangered the crew and panicked all the dependents back home which is unconscionable. I would expect any Seaman to have a better grasp of operational security than was displayed by this CO.
Yeah, that's quite concerning, what compelled him to do it though?
Just read the caption was an Obama era appointment. He wanted to burn Trump. That's why the idiot sacrificed his career.
He'll be a CNN consultant next week for his pay off
A Navy captain who got appointed by a President? That sure is interesting.
Obama era appointment.
Edited my comment and typed "era" in italics to reflect the edit
i did not serve . . . but it looked like his crew liked him . . .
You spelled Obama appointed, media leaker wrong.

HMMMMMMMM
according to the numbers in the article . . . i agree
All he did was ask for help. Virus on a ship can't be controlled by el capitan, any other situation would not have merited dismissal. FT
If the online petition to re-instate and the sailors who cheered his departure didn't take place, I would agree. We'll see what happens.
