There's ALWAYS viruses on a ship. And some bacterial infections, funguses, not a small number of STDs, and a handful of pregnancies. The last cruise I was on we had a pretty nasty cowpox going around due to improper hygiene following smallpox injections.

That is NEVER an excuse to endanger the crew of the ship by making public, intentionally OR accidentally, any potential weaknesses the ship may temporarily be experiencing, the knowledge of which could become beneficial to the enemy.

This was more than just pissing off his superiors. He literally endangered the crew and panicked all the dependents back home which is unconscionable. I would expect any Seaman to have a better grasp of operational security than was displayed by this CO.
