This is a symptom of having a marshmellow for president for 8 years. Soft 'leaders', embarrassing.

Fire every one of them and restaff the ship if they did that. If they don't see the need to keep shit like that from enemies who would take advantage, then they can fuck off and go flip burgers for a living. They are supposed to be a line of defense for MILLIONS of people not selfish little pricks.

H_Guderian 12 points ago +12 / -0

I get annoyed, but I understand the military saying "we put our lives on the line to keep you safe." But I don't recall there being a caveat that disease in wartime is okay but disease in peacetime means the gig is up. I'm with you.

18
bobafetalicious 18 points ago +18 / -0

Strange how every other critical service is taking the risk. I guess police, fire fighters and EMS should clear out too now that there is virus in their ranks. Oh, and we might as well close all those hospitals. I hear there's a virus going around. Just fire anyone on that crew that doesn't want to serve and delete all their VA benefits. FWIW, there's probably very few bases or ships that don't have the virus. Maybe we should just close down the entire military while we wait...?

24
SilverBackTrump 24 points ago +26 / -2

Millenials have ruined the military the same way they are ruining corporate America with their fucking feelings. God we are an awful, selfish, ignorant generation.

Yeah, I'm divided on this issue because of the online petition to re-instate and the cheers.

I'm no sailor but my opinion a virus on a ship is worse than a mutiny or fire.

43
VetforTrump 43 points ago +43 / -0

Doesn't matter. We've closed live men into flooding spaces to save a ship to keep fighting. That ship is our projection against. China in the region, we pay those sailors to fight thT ship and keep it ready. Before you comment, I've been to war, my son has been and one of my daughters. We all got injured or wounded during fighting and none of us was without physical ailments while it was happening. Warriors fight or die but they do not quit. That capitan essentially surrendered a ship of the line during a national emergency. Shame on him And his crew for being good with that.

6
lanre 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yup. It seems like he ran a good ship, but he knew the status of his ship was classified and that it shouldn't be leaked to the press.

2
sickofaltspin 2 points ago +2 / -0

If he ran a good ship, his sailors would know the complete and utter lack of military bearing in giving him a standing ovation.

32
astro_eng 32 points ago +33 / -1

Its not ebola, stop with the overreaction BS. They are a group of young fit adults. 80% will have mild or NO symptoms. Shut down a carrier for that? Dafuq?

28
Keiichi81 28 points ago +28 / -0

The article even points out that a quarter of the cases were asymptomatic, and none of the crewman were hospitalized or on ventilators (which means they essentially have at most "bad flu symptoms").

They're young adults. They can get the flu and get over it and move on like 99% of those in their age range. A carrier has medical facilities to handle any cases that get bad enough.

Soft leaders produce soft followers. They take after their weak assed capitan. Im ready to leave retirement t and go back k in just to help fix that politically correct self entitled bullshit pussy assed crap.

Maybe embedded (infiltrated) traitors.

5
VetforTrump 5 points ago +5 / -0

More than.likely as espy just last week pledged the support of the entire u.s. military to "fight the hidden enemy" deep states showed them they still have some control. Also, the distrust that will cause. A guy who was probably gonna get a star later just threw it all away....likely he feels he is protected, also what leverage would the D.s. have on him.

7
TrumpTrainJune152015 7 points ago +7 / -0

He truly destroyed the officer corps. So many brainwashed young officers now in command positions carrying on the bullshit.

76
Bombshellacking 76 points ago +76 / -0

Carrier vet here. The fact that the crew were cheering FOR him on the way out the door shows me he was not in charge of his boat. You don't want the CO to be liked, you want him to be respected. Big difference.

22
VetforTrump 22 points ago +22 / -0

Thank you brother. I also feel that way, I worked for captain r.c. Mackie on the ike directly. O k ew him and still he had a command presence you didn't fuck with. In fact my story above he shit his pantshimself several times before we were ordered to anchor and get taken care of. Now I like the shit out of hi. Because he made us grunt it out like men, but over all he made us train and drill until we hated him for it.

16
bobafetalicious 16 points ago +16 / -0

Anyone that wants to leave should leave. We need a military that's not afraid to protect us especially when times are tough. Imagine this crew's reaction if they were actually under fire?

15
Bombshellacking 15 points ago +15 / -0

I was on the Kennedy from 89-93. We had this CO named Captain Brown. As hardcore and salty as they come. If you went in front of him for mast you were instantly hit with 45 days restriction, reduction in rank. Din't matter how small the charge was. The ship was always squared away, you knew exactly where you stood in the world and the port calls were well rewarded. Then we got Captain Gay and you can do the math.

Basically it's like a plea bargain. When you're accused of/caught breaking the UCMJ (military law), if you're enlisted (a soldier) then you are given an option to either take the accusations to trial or plead your case before your commanding officer. This is informally called a Captain's mast in the Navy and is regulated under Article 15 of the UCMJ. If you plead your case the punishments are usually relatively light and administrative in nature. If you take it to a court martial and lose you're pretty much done, will serve some jail time, and will get something other than an honorable discharge so it can go on your criminal record.

Most people take the plea bargain and get something like 45 days of being a slave, a demotion, forfeiture of salary for a couple months, stuff like that.

Officers don't get that option, so generally senior officers have become reluctant to officially discipline them.

4
ryvrdrgn14 4 points ago +4 / -0

So he was just running one big party?

2
Frog_Anne 2 points ago +2 / -0

I read a comment on Instapundit saying that "tradition" is as an officer leaves the ship for the last time, sailors boo if they're unhappy he's leaving, but cheer if they're glad he's going, that being the only chance they have to express their feelings. Any truth to that, or is it an internet fable?

2
Bombshellacking 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was in almost 30 years ago, during the cold war/ Desert Storm. It looks to me as if Naval culture has changed and not for the good.

59
Old_Nans_Gin_Flask 59 points ago +59 / -0

Crozier’s memo was cc’ed to more than 20 other people instead of just his superiors and was submitted via unsecured and unclassified email.>

Crozier also did not discuss with his direct superior, Carrier Strike Group Commander Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, the issues outlined in his memo before sending it, despite Baker being deployed on the ship with Crozier and living right down the hall from Crozier.>

No excuse for this

40

Troop movements are classified for a reason. He knew better and deserves this and more.

2

22
duvalpede 22 points ago +22 / -0

No excuse for either thing. The fact that if he had concerns and he didn't consult with the fleet commander who was on the ship is insane. Nevermind at least consulting with his XO as well.

This was a political stunt. He has an out and CNN career or congressional run already lined up. The cheering for him on the ship as he left was a poor indication of the "leadership" of that boat. Every one of those sailors is suspect. My guess is its a free-for-all on there.

I'm not sure how many people realize how many crappy people simply join the military for the gibs.

18
duvalpede 18 points ago +18 / -0

This was a coordinated political stunt. He didn't consult with his commander, who was on the ship, or his XO. I wonder if he's got a congressional run or CNN gig lined up. He looks like a slimy puke.

Seeing those cheering sailors (not following 'social distancing') indicates to me that it's a free-for-all on that ship, wholly lacking any discipline. I'm not sure how many folks realize how many crappy people join the military just for the gibs.

6
lanre 6 points ago +6 / -0

Wait, his fleet commander was on the ship and he didn't pass it by him? I'm guessing they must've at least verbally talking about it and he was told to shut up and do his job (informally).

4
mintyfresh 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'm betting on CNN gig. The hiring standards are lower.

1
Ucanttakeskyfromme 1 point ago +1 / -0

I am also not buying this he was well liked BS. that is a tiny fraction of a carriers crew at the gangway sending him off.

13

None, as a ships readiness is classified he also fucked that up.

6

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly said Friday other United States Navy ships in the Pacific may now be on higher alert due to the ex-commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt’s leaked memo describing a coronavirus outbreak on the ship.

Why isn't this ex-commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt under arrest?

26
Snugmeatsocks 26 points ago +26 / -0

14

Because he is still under military control. Better than arrest.

5

Wtf happened to my Navy???

Captains used to go down with their ship. I've bee. Quarantined in a nuke carrier, the IKE. I. The early 80s. We got a stomach virus that spreaD to all 54 hundred men onboard. Not a man their didn't shit their pants and we stayed on our duties through it all without complaint until the preside t ordered us to anchor off of Cyprus for a team of dics from. Germany to bring big green pills. We didn't announce to our enemies we were not ready. That info is classified this nut surrendered his ship. Your life is not important the ships ability to project our force is all that matters.

lanre 5 points ago +5 / -0

Bad judgment. I think he probably just overreacted to the situation and was upset his superiors didn't agree with him. It's clear he had spoken with his superiors at least verbally and had already been overruled. So I guess he thought he'd go higher and make it public that his ship was going to turn into the Diamond Princess v2.0. And since he's running a nuclear powered aircraft carrier, that would be much worse.

Unfortunately he announced to the world that one of our aircraft carriers had a serious infection of the coronavirus and probably wouldn't be combat effective for awhile.

7
VetforTrump 7 points ago +7 / -0

Crew are idiots, I'm embarrassed for them because too many are failing to be properly embarrassed for themselves

2
cluckingducks 2 points ago +2 / -0

Knowing how large a carrier crew is, is it possible that the vast majority understand what a douche this captain is and these few that are in attendance and cheering are the outliers? Taking this vid is actually a big deal to me.

As others have said, loose lips sink ships. He dodged chain of command and put the lives of those on board in danger. Form your own opinion but that's mine.

5
VetforTrump 5 points ago +5 / -0

It simply isn't done this way. You don't run because you are sick, you die doing your duty if need be. Those who never got that will understandably question this. If the whole crew was onboard with what happened then its actually a ship's mutiny against its fleet.
