Globalism is a modern idea that we can somehow civilize entire cultures and nations by trading with them freely and openly. We tried this in the wake of WWII partly because it had never been tried before but also because this is what the British and Romans did to build their empire and bring Pax Romana (the peace of Rome) to the earth.

In the American case, we started off on a good foot. Our first "allies" were Japan, Germany, Europe, and others. However, over time, we made the umbrella a little too big, brought in our enemies unto our trading empire, and now we are where we are at.

What we've forgotten is the great secret to building empires that last for more than a few years: COLONIZATION.

In both the British and Roman models, they would send their citizens into their trading partner's countries. They would even go so far as to build entirely new cities modeled after the Roman or British model, and make it the capitol to which everyone must visit and pay respects (AKA fill out forms.) People who adopted their culture could become citizens of the empire. People who did not were forced to integrate.

Colonization has been decried by communists because it is effective. It takes backwards countries, replaces their leadership and culture with a successful one, and people actually like it. The "conquered" vassal states of the Roman empire didn't take long to call themselves Roman and look to their "conquerors" as heroes and defenders. Likewise, with a common culture and system of government, people from halfway across the world knew what to expect when visiting a foreign land, and trade deals and the related increase in wealth exploded.

Colonization is very different from open-ended trade agreements. Under colonization, the invading country takes over the target's government, either establishing a puppet government or putting in their own people. Industries are built on land owned by, and often defended by, the invader's citizens. The locals lose all control and see their property distributed to the invaders, The locals also see their culture and religion shift and change to the invaders.

Had we done China through colonization, we would be dealing with a government that was either run by American citizens or by puppets. The land we used to build factories on would not only be owned by US citizens, but they would be defended by them as well. Meaning, if the government decided to do something silly, they would find themselves facing pointy sticks held by people loyal to the US, not China. Over time, the Chinese culture would shift, they would start speaking English, they would forget their old customs and traditions and adopt American customs and traditions, and even adopt our religions. (Note how Hong Kong is very different than China -- Hong Kong was colonized by the British.)

It's time we started COLONIZING again. Rather than invest our money in overseas governments and businesses, let's buy them out, replace them, and invest in ourselves. If we see something we want overseas, let's own it for ourselves. If there are countries very friendly to us, let's take over their governments, have them speak American English, and learn American culture and American religion.

We have already colonized all of the states we now think of as our own. We colonized Alaska and Hawaii too, and to a large degree, many countries are already colonized, we just weren't trying to do so. (IE, much of Europe is colonized.) I think it's time we got serious about this business, stopped playing games, and laid down the law to the rest of the world.

And I think that is what Trump is doing.

China is OUT, and the only way they can get back is to allow themselves to be colonized by us.
