Obama tried to appoint Merrick Garland to replace Scalia in 2016. The senate refused saying the appointment should wait until after the election.

I fear if Ginsburg passes the Democrats will make the same argument, and the GOP will play along. We are a little safer because Trump is likely to be reelected. Just a caution if Ginsburg passes after the 4th of July, she likely won't be replaced until 2021.

McConnell has already publicly said he would not do that, and the Senate would exercise its job to approve a judge.
