I am not familiar with how they handle double blind studies for a life threatening disease... does seem pretty immoral unless the drug being tested is the only long shot opportunity they got for survival.
If it was a brand new drug, sure. Chloroquine and its variants are not new in the slightest and have been proven to be safe to administer. If it had positive results and has a proven track record of being a nonlethal medication, double blind studies can suck my nuts in times of crisis.
Double-blind just means that both the doctors and the patients don't know whether they are in the control group or study group. Doesn't mean you can't give standard treatment to the control group.

We have plenty of evidence hydroxychloroquine, zpacks, and zinc work. Whoever is put in the control group is being denied life saving medication - no other treatments have been reasonably successful.
Clinical studies are stopped early all the time for life-saving therapies (if efficacy is clearly established) because its deemed that it would be unethical to deny the control group the medication.

But as time goes on, I hope Trump stops listening to him more and more, as we are now realizing Fauci is a one trick pony. His advice is essentially to shut down the country indefinitely and do a bunch of studies. I gave him a chance in the beginning, but have since soured on him.
